OLYMPIA — With America’s economy in the tank, political rancor in our nation’s capitol, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the senseless killings of five police officers in our state, we needed a bit of good news to jolt us into the Christmas spirit. We got it on Dec. 15 when Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner zipped down the runway and launched into the dreary Washington morning skies on its maiden voyage.

Doris Louise Holteroff, 87, passed away Oct. 28, 2007, at Summerwood Care Center in Moses Lake. Doris was born July 31, 1920, in Omak to Jack Perkins and Louise Lafleur Perkins. She married Ken Holterhoff July 1, 1939, in Wenatchee. Doris graduated from Wenatchee High School. She was a professional bookkeeper at M and H Glass and retired in 1984. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima church in Ephrata, the Moose Lodge, Topaz club of Wenatchee and Colville Confederated Tribes. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by sons Jim, Jerry of Wenatchee, Larry (Debbie), Moses Lake, and Paul (Janice), Wenatchee; grandchildren Ryan, Todd, Nathan, and a great-granddaughter.

Nativity display was inspiring

I had the pleasure of attending the display of 350 Nativity scenes at the Moses Lake LDS church. What a great gift from the church to the community. I left infused with the Christmas Spirit and a remembrance of what Christmas is all about.
