State awards grants to support local arts and festivals
OLYMPIA — The Washington State Department of Commerce announced Monday that it is awarding more than $71,000 to arts organizations and local festivals in the Columbia Basin. The grants, made in collaboration with the Washington Festivals and Events Association and ArtsWA, are part of $3.3 million in funds awarded to 284 organizations in 36 of Washington’s 39 counties, according to the announcement. Grants can be used to restart local festivals and events suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic or to stabilize depleted budgets, according to the press release. Recipients can use the funds for deposits on infrastructure (security, temporary fencing, staging, lights, sound equipment, etc.) and staff and labor costs. Grants ranged from $178 to $35,000 and were based on need and demonstrated losses. The program was made possible through a tourism relief grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration...
James Joseph Nelson
James Joseph Nelson of Whidbey Island, Washington passed peacefully in his sleep on Oct. 31, 2022, in Everett, Washington at the age of 79. Jim is survived by his wife Linda; daughter Heidi (Don) Sherman; son Christopher Nelson; stepsons Eric Dufur and Alan Dufur Petrick; grandchildren Shelby Nelson, Elizabeth Dufur, Andrew Dufur and Kylie Sherman; brother Mike Nelson and sister Mary (Dick) Niemeyer, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was greeted in heaven by his father OT, mother Dawn Ann, brother Rex and sister-in-law Karen Nelson. Jim graduated from Moses Lake High School, attended Big Bend Community College, proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, and was a combat veteran, Vietnam.
David Hathaway
David Lynn Hathaway, beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, in Boise, Idaho. David was born on Dec. 22, 1949, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Lynn and Irma Hathaway. He was the eldest of six children and was raised in Bothell, Washington. He attended and graduated from Bothell High School in the late ’60s where he was a state-level wrestler. After high school he married his first wife Patty and they relocated to Moses Lake, Washington where they raised three children: Mike, Sarah and Rachel. David enjoyed an extensive career in construction where he excelled at building homes, facilities, stores, and restaurants across Washington and Idaho.

LaVerne Ellen Harris arrived into this world on Feb. 11, 1942. She was born to Lee and Verna Harris in Thomas, Idaho. She blessed the family as their second daughter, just behind her older sister Dixie. She was later made an older sister to her brother Ricky. She attended school in Springfield and graduated from Aberdeen High School in May of 1960. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings throughout her life in all auxiliaries of the church. She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was one of his most spirited disciples.

CALL FOR BIDS CITY OF WARDEN WEIR WAY & 8TH STREET PROJECT Sealed Proposals will be received by the undersigned at the Sealed Proposals will be received by the undersigned at the City of Warden, 121 South Main Street, Warden, Washington 98857 up to 2:00 PM; local time on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, for furnishing the necessary labor, materials, equipment, tools, and guarantees thereof to construct Weir Way & 8th Street Project. This Contract provides for three (3) schedules of work, all in accordance with the attached Contract Plans, these Special Provisions, and the Standard Specifications: Schedule A: Weir Way Reconstruction: The construction of the overlay of approximately 1,610 lineal feet of Weir Way, including but not limited to pulverizing the existing pavement, excavation, grading, subgrade preparation, driveway entrances, cement treated base, hot mix asphalt pavement, pavement marking, miscellaneous surface restoration, traffic control and all other appurtenances required to complete the work. Schedule B: 8th Street Reconstruction: The construction of the overlay of approximately 600 lineal feet of 8th Street, including but not limited to pulverizing the existing pavement, excavation, grading, subgrade preparation, storm drainage improvements, cement concrete curb, gutters, curb ramps, sidewalks, driveway entrances, cement treated base, hot mix asphalt pavement, pavement marking, miscellaneous surface restoration, traffic control and all other appurtenances required to complete the work. Additive Item No. 1: Schedule C: 8th Street Water Main Crossing: The construction of approximately 80 LF of 8-inch PVC C900 water main at the intersection of 8th Street and Weaver Road. Sherri Lynn Jennings-Hausknecht, born on Feb. 22, 1968, passed away March 28, 2023. Sherri was born and raised in Florida and relocated to Moses Lake with her children Amanda, Christopher and Matthew. Sherri was an exceptional woman, daughter, sister, mother, niece, grandmother and friend. She worked hard, building her own private legal business, and made a reputation for herself that she was proud of. In remembrance of Sherri Lynn Jennings- Hausknecht‘s life there will be a celebration at Rick’s Lounge, 819 W. Third Ave., Moses Lake, Washington on Saturday April 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. Children are welcome. Please join us if you can!
