William Bennett Mathis passed away Oct.12, 2007, of complications from Alzheimer's. He was bom Jan. 10, 1919, in Quincy to Christian and Maroa Mathis. At 2 years of age he moved with his parents to Rice, Wash., where he grew up on a ranch. He attended school at Pleasant Valley for eight years and graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1937.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Cashmere Convalescent Center in Cashmere, Wash. She was born Sept.14, 1928, to James and Nellie Maguire in Collingdale, Pa. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ray Gudmunson of Ephrata, her parents, her brothers Kenny and Bud Maguire and sister Marie Gudmunson.

Shirley Irene Vander Vorste, age 59, longtime resident of Royal City, left us and went home to our loving Father July 26, 2007, after an 11 year struggle with breast cancer. She was born to Bill and Frieda Waterson, Aug. 11, 1947, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Shirley grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota and graduated from Sturgis High School. She married Dwight Vander Vorste, Aug. 21, 1966, and moved to Royal City in the fall of 1968. She was active in the community, her church, and The Public School Employees of Washington.
