QUINCY — The Quincy City Council will hold a hearing July 1 to solicit public opinion on the city’s six-year street improvement plan. It's scheduled for 6 p.m. during the regular council meeting at Quincy City Hall, 104 B St. SW. Some proposed street improvements are tied to development, and others, said Quincy Engineer Ariel Belino, are added because the streets in question need some work.

Karen Louise Stevens, 84, passed away in her home on June 16, 2025. She was born on Sept. 18, 1940 in El Reno, Oklahoma to Lucille and Floyd J. McLaren. Karen was married to the love of her life, Perry “Pinky” Stevens, for 45 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose quiet strength and deep compassion guided her family through life’s seasons. Karen is lovingly remembered by her children Cheri (Rob) Kinder and Mark (Lisa) Stevens; her eight grandchildren (Steven) Tessa Riegel, (Rebecca) John Boyer, Drew Kinder, Denise Kinder, Nate Stevens, (Ashleigh) Brandon Carney, (Aquina) Allen Morrical, (Kendra) Deven Alder; and 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her great joy and pride.

Joseph J. Cassiano Jr. was born June 26, 1951, to Joseph Sr. and Mary Lou (Smith) Cassiano. In 1970, Joe met his high school sweetheart, Janet Brown, and they were married in 1972. He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 73 with his loving wife of 53 years at his side. Joe was a lifelong resident of Moses Lake. He was a certified welder and pipe fitter who spent many years working in local factories such as Columbia Bean Co., Carnation, U&I Sugar, I.T.I., and Brown & Root before retiring from ASiMI in 2005. He was an avid hunter and fisherman known as “Catfish” to his friends. He enjoyed flying Cessna airplanes, boating, road and dirt bike riding, RVing and anything outdoors. Throughout his life he owned several 1957 Chevys including his last ’57 Bel Air that won him several trophies.

Floyd William "Bill" Rigsby, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2025, in Melbourne, Florida, at the age of 80. Bill was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Floyd William Rigsby, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Rigsby. He grew up in Moses Lake, Washington, alongside his surviving siblings Donna Walden and Larry Rigsby of Washington, and Vicki Turner of Ohio. He graduated in 1963 from Moses Lake High School.

QUINCY — Class speaker and Quincy High School teacher Wade Petersen had some praise and some advice for the QHS class of 2025. “You didn’t just buy through high school, you slayed it,” Petersen told the seniors. “You became young adults, ready to skibidi your way into the real world.” It won’t always be easy, though, Petersen said. “Whatever you choose, know this. Life’s not always going to be a dub. You’re going to take some L’s along the way,” he said.

QUINCY – Over the weekend, two wildfires and a home fire in Grant County and, as of Sunday, the county is in a burn ban effective until at least Sept. 30. “Be aware of what the rules are and follow the burn ban stipulations. We prefer not burning at all,” Grant County Fire District 13 Chief Jim Stucky said. “If you are going to do a campfire or whatever, make sure you have water nearby, don’t let it get too big and make sure it is fully out and cold to the touch before you go to bed for the night.”
