Dennis Paul Mickelsen
Surrounded by those who loved him most, Dennis Paul Mickelsen, 54, lost his three-year battle with cancer on Nov. 8. Denny was born to Dennis and Linda Mickelsen and spent his childhood in Winlock, Washington on their family dairy farm. Most of his childhood memories involved working and learning on the farm. Known then as Denny Paul, he loved working with his dad, grandpa Clayton and the crew. He loved the cows, fields, and equipment – farming was truly in his blood. After graduating from Winlock High School in 1986, Denny attended Washington State University in Pullman. He worked hard to balance his rigorous engineering classes, working on the campus dairy and enjoying a social life. After earning his BS in agricultural engineering in 1991, Denny spent four years working as an engineer for the USDA/SCS, earning his professional license before returning to his true passion on the Winlock farm.
Ann Klobucher
Ann Frances (Schlaefer) Klobucher passed away on May 22, 2023, at the grand age of 102. Born to Boyd and Frances Schlaefer in Spokane, Washington on March 7, 1921, Ann moved with her family to Forks, Washington when she and her younger brother and sister were quite young. Her parents started the first telephone company on the Olympic Peninsula. She had many stories of operating the old-fashioned switchboard with party lines when she was in high school and home on break from Washington State College (now Washington State University). College was where she met her future husband, Victor W. Klobucher Jr., who happened to be the lab teaching assistant in her chemistry class. They were married on Febr. 6, 1945. She fell in love with dance during college and she and Vic enjoyed dancing throughout their marriage. Following Vic's discharge from the Army at the end of World War II, Ann and Vic moved around the United States to his various National Weather Service assignments, and then to medical school in Portland, Oregon.

Joining the Jackrabbits are local squads from Ephrata, Moses Lake, Othello, Royal and Wahluke. After having short notice to put the tournament together last year, this year’s Bring Home Da Beef tournament will welcome around 30 teams to Quincy’s home mat. “Last year we threw it together on three days’ notice out of necessity because another tournament got canceled because of COVID,” Quincy Head Coach Devan Silva said. “It was a labor of love from the team moms in Quincy, to Royal – all over the state people were coming in. Because of that, the tournament felt really special.”
