Quincy to host Bring Home Da Beef tourney this weekend

QUINCY — The Quincy Bring Home Da Beef girls wrestling tournament returns this Saturday, bringing in teams from all around the state. Joining the Jackrabbits are local squads from Ephrata, Moses Lake, Othello, Royal and Wahluke.
After having short notice to put the tournament together last year, this year’s Bring Home Da Beef tournament will welcome around 30 teams to Quincy’s home mat.
“Last year we threw it together on three days’ notice out of necessity because another tournament got canceled because of COVID,” Quincy Head Coach Devan Silva said. “It was a labor of love from the team moms in Quincy, to Royal – all over the state people were coming in. Because of that, the tournament felt really special.”
With district tournaments beginning as soon as next week, this is the final tournament of the regular season for the Jackrabbits.
“As the last tournament prior to postseason, it should be special,” Silva said. “It should be a celebration of our athletes in Washington state, what they’ve accomplished this season and everyone who supported them to get to this point.”
With the Mat Classic now split into two groups for girls wrestling, Silva said this is the last time teams will get to compete against all classifications during a tournament.
“I want to see the best of the best competing with the best of the best,” Silva said. “Especially with the splits this year from 4A and 3A, down to 2A and below, this tournament will really be the last time that we get to see the best go out there and wrestle the best.”
Quincy has a younger roster this season, having graduated eight seniors from last year, and Silva said he wants to see the wrestlers close out the regular season on a strong note.
“It’s a lot of new kids, and just seeing how they’ve grown so far this season – this is really the last point and time to really continue that growth before it’s nose down to the grindstone for postseason,” Silva said. “It’s at home, I think the whole team is really excited for that. It should be a fun show for them.”
The Bring Home Da Beef tournament begins at 10 a.m. at Quincy High School.
“There’s good competition coming in, but ultimately I just want this tournament to be fun,” Silva said.
