Health district approves 2018 budget
EPHRATA — With the return of mumps to Grant County and flu season having begun in earnest, the board of directors overseeing the Grant County Health District approved a $2.62 million budget for 2018.

Othello council gets to work
OTHELLO — The Othello City Council on Monday approved a $14.9 million budget for 2018 and declared the situation with city well No. 3 to be an emergency, thus allowing the city to bypass the legally required bidding process to replace the well.

City officials appreciative of roads funds, explain timeline
On behalf of the Moses Lake City Council and staff, I would like to thank the citizens of Moses Lake for their support and passage of city proposition 1. This proposition increases the sales tax collected by 0.2 percent for the purpose of constructing, improving and funding transportation improvements in the city. While the final certification of the vote is not yet final, it appears that the proposition will be approved.
McCain Foods wants above-ground fiber internet link
OTHELLO — The Othello City Council is considering a request from McCain Foods to allow the company to run an overhead fiber optic cable to connect to the internet, rather than going underground as current city ordinance requires.
Sleep on the Street set for Thursday
MOSES LAKE — If you venture down North Stratford Road in Moses Lake Thursday night or Friday morning you very well might see a number of cardboard boxes set up along the road and several people using the boxes as makeshift shelters for the night. The boxes are a part of the Homeless Task Force of Grant County’s third annual Sleep on the Street event, which aims to raise awareness about homelessness and raise funds for the Warming Center in Moses Lake.
