New City Hall needed, but only being discussed informally thus far
EPHRATA — A new city hall for Ephrata has been talked about for at least 15 years, but isn’t on the immediate horizon, according to Ephrata City Manager Ray Towry. However, that doesn’t mean one will not be needed as city staffing continues to grow to meet the needs of residents. “We’ve certainly outgrown this space, so it’s out there on the horizon at some point,” Towry said.
Mattawa City Council to allow for-profit fireworks vendor
MATTAWA — The Mattawa City Council approved a change to the city’s fireworks ordinance, allowing one for-profit fireworks vendor to sell in the city, after Royal City resident Richard Andersen told members at the May 20 meeting he would like to sell fireworks to help the Royal School District buy fireworks for its homecoming events.
Gordon Merritt Meacham
Gordon Merritt Meacham, 90, of Royal City and Moxee, WA, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, in Wenatchee, WA. Mr. Meacham was born in Lapwai, fifth of the seven children of Sylvia (Doak) and Merritt Meacham. Gordon was a cattle rancher and farmer in both the Moxee and Royal City areas for many years. Survivors include his wife, Willamae Meacham of Royal City; two daughters, Ann Meacham and Sylvia Wallen, both of Gig Harbor, WA; and a son, Alonzo Meacham of Moxee.
$600,000 needed for UV facility replacement
ROYAL CITY – The ultraviolet facility at the Royal City wastewater treatment plant needs to be replaced, and it will cost the city approximately $600,000 to replace it.
