KENNEWICK – The Professional Bull Rider’s Tri-Cities Classic concluded on Saturday with the Kansas City Outlaws’ Bill Henry taking home a win, with no other rider able to surpass his flawless runs on Friday. Henry finished with a combined score of 168.5 in his two runs, scoring 83.5 points in Round 1 and 85 points in Round 2. With the win, Henry was awarded with 34 points in the Challenger Series. Local author writes book detailing drug abuse and recovery
EPHRATA - Patrick Durkin, also known by his pen name, Boston Bornagain, recently published a book called “Fire & Ice: The Meth Bible” depicting the struggles of a methamphetamine addict and his road to redemption. “That book, it's a book I wrote for the kid who’s trying drugs for the first time, (but) it's also a book about people looking for answers,” said Durkin. “I think everybody, even here in Grant County, everybody is affected by methamphetamine substance abuse.” Durkin also used his pen name to represent the main character in his book. As the story unfolds, Boston lives through a lot of the same or similar experiences that Durkin has had over the last 25 years. As Durkin put it, the story is based on 98% of the truth. Durkin’s book tells of the bad, the ugly and the scary that comes with illicit drug use. OTHELLO – The week-long Washington Little League 8/9/10U State Tournament ended on Saturday in Othello, with Kirkland American coming out on top of Magnolia with a 7-3 win in the tournament’s title game. “It (took) great teamwork,” Kirkland Head Coach Todd Greenberg said. “We had our ups and downs throughout the whole tournament, every game different players stepped up whether it was offensively or defensively. OTHELLO — Othello residents are being invited to give their opinions on two proposals for petitions for annexation of two pieces of property into the city at a public hearing June 23. Anne Henning, community development director, said annexation, if the petitions are approved, would be the start of a different process. “Annexation would be the first step,” Henning said.
