RICHLAND – The Royal City Knights continue their run in the 1A state tournament into day two. They were the second seed in the bracket.

Mattawa crash injures one
MATTAWA — A Renton man was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center Wednesday after he drove off the road and rolled his semitruck. Kibret Ghulbet, 39, was driving south on State Route 234 about 13 miles south of Mattawa Wednesday when he ran off the road, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol. Ghulbet overcorrected and rolled his truck. The crash closed SR 243 for about four hours.
Gonzaga to face Georgia
SPOKANE – The eighth-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs will meet ninth-seed Georgia in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Men’s Division I Tournament today in Wichita, Kansas. Tipoff is at 1:30 p.m. according to the Gonzaga athletics schedule.
Special Olympics sendoff
MOSES LAKE – Special Olympic teams around the Columbia Basin sent their teams to the state competition in Tacoma Friday morning. Each team held a sendoff for their players as they anticipated their trip to State.

Civil Air Patrol presents at council workshop
EPHRATA – Civil Air Patrol cadets practiced presenting the colors at an Ephrata City Council workshop Wednesday evening at City Hall. The drill and ceremonies competitors are headed to California for competition soon and wanted to get practice in front of an audience. Kathy Maxwell with the Civil Air Patrol said this is multiple years in a row the Ephrata squadron has qualified for the competition. Members said the competition includes a variety of categories including physical fitness, knowledge and drill and ceremonies.
Moses Lake couple injured in car crash
ELLENSBURG — A Moses Lake woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center after the car she was driving hit an embankment and rolled Aug. 29.

Othello man injured in Dodson Road crash
EPHRATA — An Othello man was injured when he failed to negotiate a curve and rolled his semi-truck and trailer Friday morning at the intersection of Dodson Road and Interstate 90.
Adams Co. nursing assistant loses credentials
OLYMPIA — The Washington Department of Health announced that it has indefinitely suspended Lisa Ann Adams’ certified nursing assistant credential. Her license was suspended in November, but it was announced in mid-December.

Defense rules the court as the Eagles defeat Gauchos
CHENEY — The last hurrah for Eastern Washington women's basketball in 2024 was on Reese Court tonight and they closed out the non-conference schedule with a return to a familiar formula for success. Eastern defeated UC Santa Barbara, 54-46, on Friday night behind a strong defensive effort through all four quarters. EWU finishes its non-conference slate with a 4-8 record, while the Gauchos fall to 7-5.
Knights, Mavs, ACH head to state quarterfinals
MOSES LAKE — On Saturday, three Basin football teams will look to take the next step in state football competition. The Royal Knights (10-0), Moses Lake Mavericks (11-0) and Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors (9-1) will all play in quarterfinal games Saturday afternoon.
