Polly, as her friends knew her, died peacefully in her sleep on June 2, 2009, at her home in Startup, Washington. She was 96 years and 7 months old. Polly was still very active making quilt tops and cooking up until about 2 weeks before her death.

She married Wallace Birchill on Jan. 1, 1942. Edna was a housewife, mother and later an elementary school teacher at Moses Lake, Fairfield and Pasco, Wash.

Mother Copeland was a faithful member of Central Holiness Church. Later during life, she relocated to Moses Lake, where she was a member of New Light Baptist Church.
