IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Sixteen elk died sometime during the winter at an eastern Idaho wildlife management area when a stack of hay containing 2,000-pound (900-kilogram) bales collapsed and fell, crushing some of the elk and causing others to be trampled to death.

Dennis Leon Knowles, a 65 year old former Carey, Idaho resident, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 29, 2013 with his family at his side in Spokane, Washington. He was born on February 25, 1948 in Wendell, Idaho, the first born child of Leo Thomas and Gloria (Holt) Knowles, and attended schools in Shoshone, Idaho. He lived in Shoshone until he moved to Carey in the 1970s, where he continued to work for the Idaho Department of Transportation. He retired 10 years ago from IDT and continued living in Carey until he moved to Moses Lake, Washington this past year to live with his daughter and her family.

A longtime problem with sea lions predating (preying) on at-risk fish populations, like salmon, steelhead and sturgeon, on the Columbia River has Graser concerned, fired up and, most of all, motivated to see a legislative fix come about to address the issue.
