Eslick, Fair guide Manta Rays

CHENEY - The Moses Lake Manta Rays swim team swam last weekend for the "B" Championships at the Eastern Washington University pool.

Brenden Eslick, 11, and Anna Fair, 8, were the Manta Rays' top swimmers.

Eslick took third place in overall points in the 11-12 boys division. He swam incredible races to win first place in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard individual medley and 200-yard individual medley. His time of 1 minute, 16.13 seconds in the 100 backstroke set a new team record, breaking the old mark of Nick Jarman.

Eslick is a dedicated swimmer with passion and true work ethic who will also be competing in the "A" Championships at EWU, Feb. 22-24.

Fair was the runner-up in overall points for the 8-and-under girls division. She achieved "A" team qualifying times in the 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard backstroke, 25-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke.

Other girls with strong individual efforts included Kirsten Hutsell, 10, who earned an "A" time in the 100 individual medley. Addison Fair, 9, did the same in the 100 backstroke, while 12-year-old Rachel Horning achieved the feat in the 100 butterfly and 50 butterfly.

High-place finishes were turned in by 8-year-old Krista Hutsell, 9-year-old Hailey Tolliver, 11-year-olds Emily Pruneda and Corey Bradshaw, and 14-year-old Elaura Grant. Other outstanding performers included Megan Mullin, Kaneesha Hemmerling, Ben Caballero, Nicole Eslick, Carley Griffith, Alexis Mounts, Hailey Griffith and Chris Vidrine.
