MOSES LAKE - The National Cutting Horse Association hosted its NCHA Weekend event at the Grant County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday, bringing in riders from across the Western United States and Canada. “Cutting is an old tradition from ranches many years ago, in order to get cows to where they needed them it was basically a form of cutting (individual cows away from their herds),” Washington Cutting Horse Association President Bruce Pinkerton said. “Now it’s refined to a very large sport in the United States.” ...

Max James Morley was born in Anchorage, Alaska on June 18, 1942. Died March 28, 2012 in Moses Lake, Wa. Survived by wife of 45 years Sharon (Shari), son Todd, Maryland, and daughter Yani, Anchorage. His Mother, Gwendolyn J. Morley ,sister Lloydean, Sammamish, Wa, brother Bruce (wife Judy) Juneau, AK and sister, Lynn, Renton, WA. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. His father Lloyd A. Morley died in 2000.
Richard Gordon Nicks
Richard Gordon Nicks passed away at Cottage in the Meadow on Nov 16, 2013 surrounded by his family. He had been battling lung cancer at home until a week ago. He was born in Ephrata, WA on Feb 16, 1931 to Gordon and Thelma Nicks. He graduated Ephrata High School in 1950 and shortly after, married his first wife Doris E Ford in 1951. They had four children together; Linda in 1953, Richard Jr in 1955, James in 1957 and Patricia in 1960. His wife Doris died on Dec 21, 1977. On June 30, 1979 he married his current wife of 34 years, Judith Ann (Miller) Covelli. Richard had worked in law enforcement for 38 years. His positions included: the Chief of Police in Ephrata, the Elected Grant County Sheriff, the Chief of Police in Selah, and the Assistant Director of the WA State Gambling Commission. He served as President of the WA State Sheriff Assoc, the VP of the WA State Sheriff and Police Chief Assoc., He had been a past President of the Ephrata Kiwanis Club and Master of the Ephrata Masonic. He served a term as a Selah City Councilman. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in Washington D.C. in 1964 and from the National Sheriff's Assoc. in Los Angeles, CA. Preceding him in death are his parents Thelma and Gordon Nicks, his first wife Doris Nicks and daughter Patricia Nicks, his brother Allen Nicks. He is survived by his wife Judith Nicks of Yakima, his daughter Linda (Bruce) Kinney of Yakima, his son Richard (Yuko) Nicks Jr of Federal Way, his son James (Vickie) Nicks of Spokane, his step-son Frank (Pam) Covelli of Yakima, his step-daughter Sharon (Gordon) Evans of Yakima and his step-son Richard (Laura) Covelli of Bellingham, numerous grandchildren and one great-grand daughter.

Clyde was born on Jan. 31, 1935 to Clyde (CC) and Alice (Lewis/Haines) Andrews in Sunnyside, Washington. His mother died tragically in a farm accident in 1938, and in 1940, his father CC married Cora Smithwick (Buddy) who raised him as her own. Clyde was raised in the Yakima Valley, graduating from Prosser High School in 1954 and marrying his wife of 69 years, Bonnie Lenhart, that same year. In 1958, along with their first two children, Clyde and Bonnie moved to Othello with Clyde's father, CC, to start Othello Ice and Cold Storage (today's Simplot potato processing plant). Clyde was active in the community as they raised their three children as members of the Othello Christian Church. He was a dedicated Gideon, personally handing out thousands of Bibles throughout his 50-year membership. In 1975, the family moved to Bruce to restore and preserve the 1918 Rayburn farmhouse at their farm on Foley Road. Clyde then built Sun Country Storage in 1977, operating it until his retirement in 1998. His passion for historical preservation continued, playing an instrumental role in the restoration of the 1910 Pullman executive railroad car, The Abraham Lincoln, and maintaining his own collection of over a dozen World War II military vehicles.
