Moore Brewing to go full funny Friday

MOSES LAKE — A good laugh can be found in the strangest of places. And like a dog sniffing out a dropped piece of steak, Michael Glatzmaier knows exactly where to look. “Right before the show, people get to write suggestions on a piece of paper,” said Glatzmaier, who will perform twice Friday at Moore Brewing Company in Moses Lake. “Then throughout the show I pull those slips of paper out of a bucket – I don’t know what’s on them – and then I have to try to create an improvised comedy song on the spot based off those suggestions.”

Ephrata’s Downer recognized for excellence

OTHELLO — Columbia Physical Therapy has finally realized a longtime dream. “We just added the pool,” said physical therapist Ken Jones, who shares the clinic with physical therapist Nate Stott. “That year-long construction project was just finished.”

Members Exhibition opens Friday at Moses Lake Museum

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center’s Members Exhibition is in its fourth year, and it’s breaking records, said Gallery Coordinator Veronica Talbot. “It’s over 160 pieces, with over 50 artists,” Talbot said. “We have quite the array (of media). We have acrylics, we have oils, we have wool wreaths. We’ve got a skull.”

Concert Association show will highlight cello and piano, plus a little holiday fun

MOSES LAKE — The Central Basin Community Concert Association will present “Classical Sounds of the Season” Dec. 4. The concert replaced the one originally planned by pianist and Moses Lake native Collin Hansen, who was unexpectedly unable to come from Finland to perform. “Classical Sounds of the Season” will feature Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra cellist Kevin Hekmatpanah and pianist Yoon-Wha Roh.

Ritzville’s new chief has spent a lifetime in the police arena

RITZVILLE — On the wall behind Ritzville Police Chief Mike Suniga’s desk, there’s a quote from Theodore Roosevelt. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better,” it reads in part. “The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who … does actually strive to do the deeds.”

MOSES LAKE — Some things are temporary and some aren’t. How those intersect is the theme of an exhibit opening at the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center Friday. “The world is crazy, and so many things are happening, but some things still (are) not changing,” said artist Mihail Kivachitsky. “The stars (and their) astronomical characteristics are a reflection of that … It can be actual today, it was actual 1,000 years ago, and probably is going to be in the future.”

Tigers tennis teams gain wins over Jacks

EPHRATA – The Ephrata Tigers boys and girls tennis teams both came out with wins in their matches against the Quincy Jackrabbits Thursday afternoon. “(It was) not an easy match, he gave a good fight,” said Tigers’ Josh Mullings after his match against Jacks’ Jacob Bishop. “Felt like the serves were pretty solid today, but it was a tough one because of the wind.”

Allison Stanley ready to be a Knight

MOSES LAKE – For Allison Stanley, sports have been a part of her life ever since she could walk, she said. She played every sport one could think of. Even dirt bike racing, but she wound up falling in love with softball, she said. “It was just the competitiveness, and you had to fight for everything. It wasn't just handed to you. You had to win every at-bat, and just that competitive edge that I always got from softball and how I'm always chasing to be better,” Stanley said.

Moses Lake looks to the future with top priorities established for 2026

The City of Moses Lake has a bright future. The Moses Lake City Council is moving forward with its newly-adopted top priorities for 2026. The priorities resulted from hours of discussion during a two-day council retreat in June. The retreat covered a number of topics and policy issues and culminated in the establishment of priorities the City Council wants to accomplish in 2026. This list of priorities will influence what gets included in the 2026 budget.

QUINCY – Girls wrestling teams from the Columbia Basin and beyond gathered in Quincy for the Bring Home da Beef tournament on Saturday, with five local teams closing out the final Saturday of the regular season with top 10 finishes at the 30-plus team tournament.

Move to CWAC good opportunity for Jacks soccer, coach says

QUINCY — Quincy boys soccer coach Hector Vaca said he expects the Central Washington Athletic Conference to be a tougher test for his team. And that’s good. “I’m excited for the boys. I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for them to show off their skill, show how good they are,” he said. “We have a lot of great, talented soccer players here in Quincy, and I think this is a great opportunity for them to showcase that.”

The Eagles fend off Portland State

CHENEY – On Saturday, the Eastern Washington Eagles defeated the Portland State Vikings 35-27 to bring home the Dam Cup and cap off a successful homecoming game. After a couple years without it, Head Coach Aaron Best said it’s good to have it back in their hands. “It's been out of our hands for over 1,000 days, and now it's back in Cheney and after a hard fought back and forth affair late in that game, and just proud of our players and our coaches for finding a way,” Best said.

Coffey Anderson concert to honor veterans in Quincy

QUINCY — Nationally known country artist Coffey Anderson will honor veterans in Quincy and beyond with a Veterans Day concert. “(Anderson) is considered the most popular current country artist who’s not associated with a recording studio,” said Daniel Chisholm, founder of Veterans Operation Creation, which is sponsoring the concert. “He writes his own music; (he’s) a very patriotic Christian man. And he is a storyteller. So when he performs he has meaning behind the words.”
