Soap Lake fun run to support veterans set for Saturday
SOAP LAKE – On Saturday, a 2k and 5k fun run is being held at 10 a.m. at Smokiam Park in Soap Lake. The fundraiser event is aimed at raising more awareness around Veteran’s Day, said event organizer Britton Baker.

Sept. 20, 1928 — Nov. 26, 2025
Naomi Irene (Powell) Chadwell, of Moses Lake, Washington, passed away on Nov. 26, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on Sept. 20, 1928, in Baker, Oregon, to Fred and Eathel Powell, Naomi grew up in Baker City, where she attended local schools and graduated from Baker High School. She continued her education with a two-year college program in business. Naomi married Wallace “Dick” Chadwell, and together they began their family in 1948 in a small cabin on East Eagle Creek in northeast Oregon. In 1951, they moved to Moses Lake, Washington, where they raised their six children.

Moses Lake athletes hit national track competition
MOSES LAKE – Last week, three athletes from Moses Lake Athletics Club competed in the USA Track and Field Nationals event. Brody Baker, Jaedynn Dietmeyer and Liam O’Shea traveled to Savannah, Georgia from July 21 to July 27. Looking back, Dietmeyer called it a great experience.
Joseph Cassiano Jr.
Joseph J. Cassiano Jr. was born June 26, 1951, to Joseph Sr. and Mary Lou (Smith) Cassiano. In 1970, Joe met his high school sweetheart, Janet Brown, and they were married in 1972. He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 73 with his loving wife of 53 years at his side. Joe was a lifelong resident of Moses Lake. He was a certified welder and pipe fitter who spent many years working in local factories such as Columbia Bean Co., Carnation, U&I Sugar, I.T.I., and Brown & Root before retiring from ASiMI in 2005. He was an avid hunter and fisherman known as “Catfish” to his friends. He enjoyed flying Cessna airplanes, boating, road and dirt bike riding, RVing and anything outdoors. Throughout his life he owned several 1957 Chevys including his last ’57 Bel Air that won him several trophies.

After a deflection off defensive end Logan Hall’s helmet, David found himself in the right spot to intercept Darnold with 58 seconds left. His pick set up Chase McLaughlin's 39-yard field goal as time expired, and Tampa Bay escaped with a thrilling 38-35 win over Seattle on Sunday.
