Herbert William Stephens II

Born February 14, 1929, in Seattle, Wash., to Herbert W. Stephens I and Pearl (Goudie) Stephens.  

He joined the Navy in 1946 and retired in 1967. While in the Navy he met and married Gladys Ruby Maas in 1953 and they had six children.  

After retirement he worked at the Job Corp until they closed. He then went to work for the Port of Moses Lake as security and then that turned into fire and rescue and retired again. He also served as a reserve sheriffs deputy with Grant County. He was a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Gladys, three sisters, Camille, Nancy, and Cora, one brother, Gerald, one daughter Tammie, one son, Sean, and his parents, Herbert and Pearl.  

Herb is survived by four of his children Jackie Wilmot (Kent), Robin Schaeffer (James), Blake, and Bill (Brian), grandchildren Jaime, Kyle, Brittany, Stephen, Janelle, Ashton, McKenzie, great-grandson Klayton, and great-granddaughter Luna.  

He passed away Sept. 19, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. 

At his request no service is to be held. 

    Herb Stephens was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1946 until he retired in 1967.
