Shirley Irene Vander Vorste
Shirley Irene Vander Vorste, age 59, longtime resident of Royal City, left us and went home to our loving Father July 26, 2007, after an 11 year struggle with breast cancer. She was born to Bill and Frieda Waterson, Aug. 11, 1947, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Shirley grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota and graduated from Sturgis High School. She married Dwight Vander Vorste, Aug. 21, 1966, and moved to Royal City in the fall of 1968. She was active in the community, her church, and The Public School Employees of Washington.

She met the Love of her life during WW2 at Westover Air Field, They later married and had 2 daughters. They spent much of their early marriage going from one end of the country to the other end of the country. Their oldest daughter was born on the sunny tropical island of Bermuda. The youngest was born during a tour at McChord Air base, Tacoma, WA.
