OTHELLO - The Columbia Basin Health Association and Othello Community Hospital are sponsoring a women's health workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 14 and urge all Basin women to attend.

The Women's Health Conference will be held at the Fourteenth Avenue Medical Center in Othello. It will go from 6-8 p.m. It will commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is celebrated in October.

"We decided to expand on that topic and discuss other issues involving women's health," Clinic Manager Rebecca Wolfs said.

Wolfs is asking women to arrive around 6 p.m. She said the evening will begin with appetizers and other refreshments and give participants an opportunity to look around at the informational booths before the program.

Annie Coronado, PA-C, will speak about heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and other health concerns commonly faced by women.

Dr. Monique Small, CBHA obstetrician and gynecologist, will discuss breast cancer. Lue Cole, hospital mammography technician, will conclude by discussing the importance of mammograms.

"We plan to keep the presentations short to allow the audience time to ask questions," Wolfs said.

Jessica Smith, CBHA pharmacy director, will be on hand to speak one-on-one with women about their medications. Nurses will be on hand throughout the evening to take blood pressures.

"Keeping our blood pressure under control is vital to good health," Wolfs said. "The informational booths include nutrition, breastfeeding, walking, osteoporosis and fitness. Staff representing these areas will be on hand to answer questions."
