Traffic projects coming to I-90, SR 282
MOSES LAKE — Drivers on Interstate 90 between Road O NE and Dodson Road should be prepared for delays beginning in mid-July. Sebastian Moraga, communications consultant for the Washington Department of Transportation, said construction crews will be paving both the eastbound and westbound lanes. “This year it will be day work,” Moraga said.

Changes coming to GCSO communication
EPHRATA — Staffing shortages and additional demands on department resources have led the Grant County Sheriff’s Office to make changes in the way GCSO communicates emergency information. Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said the program will be scaled back.
Ephrata's Well 3 remains under repair as more damage discovered
EPHRATA — The city of Ephrata has issued updates regarding the ongoing emergency repairs to Well 3 following a failure in its supply line Wednesday. Community efforts to conserve water remain critical as city crews work to repair the well, according to a statement from the city. "We found a broken piece, but we've got to continue. We're going to go ahead and pull the pump all the way out and check it over to make sure that it wasn't damaged," Ephrata Public Works Director Rob Harris said Thursday morning.
Warden hires interim police chief
WARDEN – The City of Warden has brought on interim police chief Juan Rodriguez from the Moses Lake Police Department after former Police Chief Rick Martin retired June 15. “The toughest thing is sitting and driving around and listening to Moses Lake, which has 25 calls on the board and sitting over here waiting to pull over a car,” Rodriguez said.

Soap Lake schools get major repairs
SOAP LAKE — The Soap Lake School District is in the process of making around $6.6 million worth of repairs. “The work is fantastic,” Superintendent Angela Rolfe said. “We're really excited to be able to upgrade and modernize some things that needed to be done.”
Narcan machine removed from Moses Lake library
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Library will no longer have a Narcan vending machine within the building. “We didn't decide to move the machine,” North Central Washington Libraries Communications and Community Engagement Manager Amanda Brack said. “It's not our machine. We were partnering with Thriving Together NCW by providing space for the machine and the library and Thriving Together NCW is relocating it, and we fully support what they're doing in our state.”
Royal City gears up for Summerfest, library opening
ROYAL CITY — Royal City will pull out the stops once again July 11-12 for the town’s annual Summerfest. “We’re going to have lots of kids attractions,” said Summerfest Committee Chair Jill Larsen. “We’re going to have a rock-climbing wall. We’re going to have a carnival ride and bouncy houses on Saturday.”

QUINCY – The Quincy Special Olympics Jackrabbits travelled to Tacoma over the weekend to compete in the state tournament. The team overall brought home 14 medals from their efforts over the weekend.
Moses Lake Special Olympics soccer earns third in state
MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Special Olympics Scorpions soccer team went to the state tournament over the weekend where they placed third. This follows the team’s second place finish in the regionals. “They are very proud of themselves, and I am very proud of them because we were down five of our best players that we don’t have this year,” said Scorpions’ Soccer Coach Jennifer Vaughan-Darby. “So, to even be able to come to state this year is amazing in itself.” The tournament started out rough for the Scorpions as they lost their first three games on Saturday.
Moses Lake council approves homeless plan
MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake city officials will delay getting rid of buildings used at, or destined for, the now-closing Open Doors Sleep Center. Moses Lake City Council member David Skaug suggested looking for a local recipient first during a discussion on closing the sleep center at the regular council meeting Tuesday.
Bailey finds a home
SOAP LAKE — Bailey has been placed in a foster home with people who are considering adoption. She had been living in a different foster home previously, but they had to return her to Rock Bottom Rocker Pet Pantry. She is a long-haired husky and Samoyed mix, and the sand and dirt out at the rescue did not get along with her fur. Now, she will not have to worry about that as she has a comfy couch and a loving family taking care of her. Although Bailey has found a home, she has many friends at the rescue who would still like a home. Visit RockBottomRocker.org and look at the animals who are up for adoption. If you can’t adopt but you would like to help the local shelter, visit the website and click “donate.” The rescue also takes donations of dog food, cat food, animal treats and water.
Ephratans asked to conserve water after well pump goes down
EPHRATA – The City of Ephrata is asking all residents and businesses to conserve water after a failure occurred in one of the city’s main water wells. “Well Three experienced a main shaft break between the motor and the pump, and we have a contractor coming on site this morning to start pulling the pump to hopefully replace or repair the main shaft and get it back online as soon as possible,” Ephrata City Public Works Director Rob Harris said.

MOSES LAKE — The wind wasn’t powerful at the Grant County International Airport Saturday – just enough to make papers blow around and sweep the occasional hat away – but it was enough to make some pilots happy.
Food and Folk Festival grows in its second year
SOAP LAKE — Last year, the sun blazed down on the Soap Lake Food and Folk Festival. This year the temperature was kinder, but Mother Nature still got in her little joke. “Later in the day, it rained, and people got up and just scattered,” said organizer Ruthann Tobiason. “But there were a few who were prepared and had coats with hoods and stuff. (The rain) didn't last very long.”
