George Washington Bush has a special place in our history

I wish that Washington state history would include George Washington Bush as part of Oregon Trails or early settlers. Our children need to know about pioneer of different races. Most students do not know that there were many people of color involved in the early westward journeys in the mid- and late 1840s. George Washington Bush was African-Irish-American. He had inherited money from a wealthy white Quaker. Mr. Bush was painted by Jacob Lawrence, famous African-American artist. Information can easily be found in encyclopedias and on line. Moses Lake has many races living here and the more we know about each other, we will appreciate our unique differences and sameness as human beings. Information can easily be found online or in any encyclopedia. He and his family contributed so much to Washington state. Some of his children served in our state legislature.

STATE OF WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF ECOLOGY NOTICE OF APPLICATION TO LIMIT AN AIR POLLUTION SOURCE

The State of Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) has received an application from Basic American Foods, Inc. for a change in the voluntary limit on natural gas consumption in their food processing plant as allowed under the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 173-400-091, "Voluntary limits on emissions". The limit in natural gas consumption is to reduce their nitrogen oxide emissions to less than 79.80 tons per year. The reduction of emissions was made possible by the closing of their bean plant operations. The application was made for their facility located at 538 Potato Frontage Road, Moses Lake, WA in Grant County. After review of the completed application and other information on file with the agency, Ecology has made a preliminary determination that this proposal will conform to all requirements as specified in Ch. 173-400 WAC and Ch. 173-401 WAC. Copies of the Preliminary Determination and other pertinent information are available for public review at Ecology, 4601 N. Monroe, Spokane, WA and at the Moses Lake Community Development Department, 321 S. Balsam, Moses Lake, WA.
