Mavs tennis heading to districts with high aspirations
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake High School boys and girls tennis teams concluded their regular seasons at Wenatchee on Saturday, falling short 2-5 and 0-7, respectively. “Obviously we would like a little different outcome on both sides, but Wenatchee is a really solid program,” MLHS Head Tennis Coach Jay Dickinson said, “It was really a good opportunity for both those teams to kind of fine-tune some of their game.”

Jacks come up short against Grandview
QUINCY — The Jacks boys soccer team (11-8-1) were defeated Saturday by the Grandview Greyhounds (10-5-1) 2-0. Despite the tough loss, head coach Hector Vaca feels that everything they want is still in front of them. “At that point, we didn't know who we were going to play, and we were just trying to get them to just stay focused, and we could still make state. I mean, it was a very real possibility of us getting to state,” Vaca said.
Ferguson signs animal cruelty bill
OLYMPIA — In a step toward enhancing animal welfare, the Washington State Legislature has passed House Bill 1149, an act aimed at the prevention of cruelty to animals. The bill received overwhelming support, with a vote of 96-0 in the House and 47-1 in the Senate, before being concurred by the House at 85-11. Gov. Bob Ferguson signed the bill into law Monday. “We will always be in favor and supportive of legislation that ends the suffering of animals and holds people accountable when they do cause unnecessary means of suffering to an animal,” Grant County Animal Outreach President Sara Thompson Tweedy said. “We’re always going to be in favor of legislation that enables law enforcement to do their job effectively and efficiently to end that suffering.”
Quincy man reported missing Saturday, found hours later
QUINCY — On Saturday night, a 68-year-old Quincy man was reported missing near the 23000 block of state Route 28 in the Trinidad area. Grant County Sheriff’s Office worked alongside Grant County Fire District 3, Quincy Police Department, Columbia EMS and Life Flight Network to search for this missing man.

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Maverick Maddy Bond committed to compete in track and field for Eastern Washington University Friday afternoon. “I really liked the coaching staff there when I went on my visit,” she said. “Everyone was really nice and friendly, and I like the environment. It’s something I wanted to be a part of.”

Moses Lake port to open new maintenance facility
MOSES LAKE — Port of Moses Lake commissioners will cut the ribbon on a new $1.4 million building May 27. The new maintenance building will replace an existing structure, and Commissioner Darrin Jackson said replacement is overdue.

Huskies advance to district finals
OTHELLO — On Saturday, the Huskies (12-5-1) forced a 1-0 shutout victory over the Ellensburg Bulldogs (8-10-1). It may have been a low scoring affair, but the Huskies defense stepped up to protect home turf and push onto the district finals against the Grandview Greyhounds (10-5-1).

Grant County remains stable, Adams County and WA gas prices rise
MOSES LAKE — Grant County’s gas prices remained stable this week at an average of $4.28 as of May 12, the same price reported last week and three weeks ago. Two weeks ago, the county saw a slight increase of $0.02 but that has since reversed itself according to AAA.
