On July 21, 2023, Maria de la Luz Moreno, returned to the Lord at age 84 after a long, courageous battle with dementia. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, friends, and pets. Maria was the biological mother of three children. However, many people considered her their surrogate mother and grandmother. Maria was born to Osvaldo and Carlota Olmeda in San Carlos Tamaulipas, Mexico, on Aug. 3, 1938. The second oldest of six children, Maria is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Neomi and Alicia and her brother Samuel. She leaves behind her sisters Betzabeth and Gloria Eva.

Discover Pass fee increase considered by WA legislature
OLYMPIA —Washington State Senate Bill 5390, which proposes to increase the cost of the Discover Pass and day-use permits, was the subject of discussion during a recent hearing before the House Committee on Appropriations. The bill aims to update fees that have remained unchanged since their implementation in 2011 and address a growing budget deficit in state recreational programs. The bill passed the Senate with a 29-20 vote. Senate Democrats voted in favor, with the exception of Sen. Adrian Cortes, D-Battle Ground. All Republican senators voted no.

Dorene Sue (Flaming) Claassen, 77, passed away on October 5, 2025, in Moses Lake, Wash. She was born June 20, 1948, in Goessel, Kansas, the oldest child of Theodore B. and Frieda (Schmidt) Flaming.
