Patricia Mae Honsowetz

October 29, 1952 – February 10, 2022

Patricia Mae Honsowetz, born Oct. 29, 1952, died Feb. 10, 2022, was a true follower of Christ, devoted wife, beautiful daughter and sister, beloved mother, cherished Nana and true friend to all those in need.

Family was always the most important relationship to Patty, and she treated everyone like family. Passionately, she loved with all her heart and served people with intention, skill, and open arms.

Patty’s love for others and leadership abilities shone at an early age. In high school, she was Worthy Advisor of Bellevue Assembly and was also elected to serve as Grand Faith of the Grand Assembly of Washington and Idaho in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. Highly involved and respected in the Kappa Delta Sorority at Washington State University, she was elected President in her senior year.

Patty was a schoolteacher by trade and began teaching in Ephrata in 1974. Moving to Moses Lake in the fall of 1975, Patty stayed home to raise her children. She taught piano out of her home and hosted numerous piano recitals. During that time, she also served as president of the Moses Lake Christian Women’s Club.

When Patty became a mother, her whole life’s ministry revolved around her children and the community: leading playgroups, running the Space Burger booth at the Grant County Fair for one year, being involved in the PTO, leading Bluebirds and Campfire Girls, volunteering on numerous committees at school, being on the MLCA school board and auction chair, embracing the role of team mom and coordinating family functions and family reunions – and so much more. Patty showed such love by making sure her children and others had all opportunities possible.

Patty loved Jesus and loved serving His people through the church. She taught children’s Sunday school for over 40 years; served as elder at Moses Lake First Presbyterian Church; led Awana classes; directed numerous Easter and Christmas plays, choirs, and worship; taught and led Vacation Bible Schools and women’s Bible studies; was on search committees for staff and pastors; and served on Christian education committees.

Patty’s home was always full of people. Patty loved holidays and celebrations as she believed in being together during times of joy and hosted too many parties to count. Returning to education, Patty received a Master’s in Education and worked both at Moses Lake Christian Academy and in Special Services at Moses Lake School District. While she loved teaching, Patty stood out above others as she taught each student with grace and creativity, making sure each child was known and felt loved. Even when she broke her ankle, she continued to teach and creatively educate – all without complaining. Advocating for children was always a passion for Patty.

She volunteered at Serve Moses Lake for many years and was a volunteer guardian ad litem for foster children in Grant County. Patty loved time with her friends and cherished her friendships. She also mentored countless mothers in the MOPS program, both at church and in her home. Even during the peak of quarantine, Patty cooked and baked and was seen all around Moses Lake dropping food off to all who needed it, making sure people knew they were not alone.

As a wife, mother and Nana, she will especially be missed. No matter where her children lived, California, Hungary, Texas, Alabama, or closer to home, Patty was always intentional and present with birthdays, holidays and every event in between. Loving to give gifts, Mom seemed to always know exactly what we needed. She could often be overheard, recalling likes and dislikes, stories, and character traits of each one of her 15 grandchildren.

Mom’s favorite book of the Bible was Psalms, especially where David was honest with the Lord. She often spoke of how short life was and always told people of the saving grace of Christ. Imperfection and sin keep us all from Jesus, and yet during hardships or strife, Mom would always claim the name of Jesus to those who would listen. Mom was fervent in prayer and prayed for all those she would meet. She never gave up on anybody and wanted to make sure each child knew that, despite herself, Jesus would always fill in the gap of the love we needed and the love we received. If you do not know Jesus, turn to Him, for this is all our mother wanted.

Patty Honsowetz leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Rick, and four children and their spouses: Melissa White married to David, Rebecca Cheney married to Scott, Pamela McLemore married to Oliver, and Nathan Honsowetz married to Christa. Patty was Nana to 16 grandchildren: Samantha, Norah, Malakai, Cate, Elayna, Ava, Addi, Ethan, Emmy, Thomas, Charlie, Rebi, Sadie, Joseph and Ned, and a grandbaby on the way. Her grandchildren were her heart. She is also survived by her parents George and Ila Sage, her sister C.Lee Sage and brother David Sage.

Her memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at Moses Lake Christian Church at 200 Yonezawa Blvd or, if needed, livestreamed through the MLCC website. In lieu of flowers, you may give to Serve Moses Lake or the Light of Larson Church, as Patty’s heart was that every person would know Christ’s love.

We also want to mention a heartfelt thank you to the first responders at the scene of the accident, especially Sergeant Kyle Cox who never left Rick’s side, and the nurses and doctors in the emergency room at Central Washington Hospital for their compassion and care.
