Masquers announces auditions for ‘Elf: The Musical'
SOAP LAKE — Auditions will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28 for the Masquers Theater production of “Elf: The Musical.” Auditions will be at the theater, 322 East Main St., Soap Lake; actors only need to attend one audition session. Clifford and Stacey Bresee are the directors. The show opens Nov. 25 and will run weekends through Dec. 16. Auditions are open to actors from 9 years of age to adult roles.

Registration for Give NCW Turkey Trot now open
WENATCHEE — Registration has opened for the Give NCW Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day in Wenatchee, according to an announcement from the Community Foundation of NCW. Give NCW Turkey Trot will feature timed 5K and 10K runs, as well as an untimed free 1K kids run that will start and finish on the Apple Capital Loop Trail adjacent to Pybus Public Market, the announcement said. All three distances are open to walkers, too. The first 750 people who sign up for the 5K and 10K are guaranteed a commemorative winter beanie hat. The event will officially kick off the Community Foundation’s annual Give NCW fundraising campaign for nonprofit organizations in North Central Washington, the announcement said.

Woman arrested for stealing, selling metal pump parts
MOSES LAKE — Deputies with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Moses Lake woman on Tuesday accused of stealing metal from an irrigation equipment retailer and selling it for scrap to a local metal dealer, according to a GCSO statement. According to the statement, 38-year-old Magaly Diaz Luna was arrested after staff at Moses Lake Iron & Metal became suspicious of the brass pump impellers Luna was trying to sell them. Staff had recently been informed by Irrigators Inc. that pump impellers had been stolen from their Moses Lake property, the statement said, after Irrigators Inc. staff found a hole in their fence and several impellers missing from a pallet. Diaz had reportedly sold brass impellers to Moses Lake Iron & Metal six different times since mid-March, the statement said, and was paid the scrap rate of roughly $1,900. According to the GCSO statement, employees with Irrigators Inc. were able to identify the impellers as belonging to the company.

Nora Lapriel (Tolley) McDowell, 86, of Moses Lake, Washington, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2023, from complications of Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia, having been lovingly attended to in her last days by her children and family. Lapriel was born on Feb. 8, 1937, in Vale, Oregon to Merl Zenos Tolley and Fern Elizabeth Bendixen Tolley. Although named Nora Lapriel, she much preferred the name “Lapriel” over “Nora” which she considered plain. She was the seventh child, placing her toward the middle of a family of 12 children. Her family moved to Granger, Washington and then settled in Moses Lake, Washington when she was in the fifth grade.

Arlie C. Christian, 89, Ephrata, passed away at Columbia Basin Hospital on Thursday. He was born with a twin sister in Surgoinsville, Tenn. Nov. 12, 1915. His parents left Tennessee and moved west to Ellensburg when he was six months old. His father was a farmer. Arlie attended school in Ellensburg and graduated high school in 1934.
