MLPD deems Night Out a success

The men and women of the Moses Lake Police Department would like to thank all who participated in our National Night Out celebration yesterday. Over 600 people came to join in the festivities at Sinkiuse Square. It was an opportunity for people to meet neighbors, gain information on local safety and crime prevention programs, enjoy food and listen to great music.

Michael Leonard Keeling

Michael Leonard Keeling was born in Moses Lake, Washington on Dec. 30, 1967, and passed away on Nov. 10, 2022, at 54 years old. He married Janet Keeling on Aug. 28, 2021. They had seven kids total, four children and three stepchildren: Alfonso Chavez, Jose Chavez, Amy Chavez, Mike Keeling Jr., Jim Keeling, John Keeling and Jean Keeling, all of Moses Lake. He is survived by his dad Albert Keeling Sr. in Crescent City, California, one sister Pam Keeling of Centralia, Washington and one brother, of Moses Lake, Washington. He also had numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The Fall Walleye Index Netting was held on Potholes Reservoir this week, this study is used to identify walleye populations and health. The data is gathered also to help determine appropriate walleye limits. Mark Peterson, Region 2 Fish Biologist, leads the team that conducts this study. Volunteers help with this extremely laborious event. The volunteers this year were from the Central Washington Fish Advisory Committee (cwfac.org) and the Hidas Valley Scouting Group from Ellensburg.

All boat ramps on Potholes Reservoir are ice free. Early signs of spring are everywhere. Bank fishers are finding some quality trout up to 28 inches. Ice off bank fishing for jumbo rainbow trout is in full swing. Boat and bank Trout fishers are finding luck at Upper Goose Lake. Don't forget Upper Goose has not only trout but also many of the same species of fish that are found in Potholes Reservoir. Reports of some nice size trout have been caught on the point at the Blythe Boat launch, between MarDon Resort and the Potholes State Park.
