SEATTLE (AP) — Bryan Woo allowed one hit in seven innings and the Seattle Mariners got homers from Eugenio Suárez, Josh Naylor and Jorge Polanco to beat the Athletics 3-2 on Friday night. With the score tied 1-all in the seventh, Athletics reliever Elvis Alvarado (1-1) hung a slider to Naylor. The slugging first baseman ripped it to right field and flipped his bat to celebrate his 100th career home run.

ROYAL CITY – The reigning 1A state champion Royal Knights kicked off their season in dominant fashion. What included a 48-point first quarter, the Knights were victorious over Kiona-Benton 68-0. “We executed pretty well in most areas. Kids were excited to get out there and play, and it was a bit of a mismatch physically. There are some areas we're still looking to get some of the pieces right, we're still working on getting their reads right and things like that, so lots to work on. But it was a great start for us,” Head Coach Wiley Allred said.

ROYAL CITY — The first seed Royal Knights (12-0) defeated fourth seed Lynden Christian Lyncs 61-35 in the semifinals of the 1A state football tournament. Senior Brody Bishop expressed his excitement to play in the state championship game next weekend. “I just love being a part of this team. It's a crazy feeling. Going back to Husky Stadium means a lot,” Bishop said. The Knights came out of the first quarter with a two-point lead over Lynden Christian. However, after a few turnovers in the second quarter, they expanded their lead to 34-20 by halftime.
