Cedar lookin' for a place to saw logs
MOSES LAKE – Hey there, I’m Cedar and I’ve got to tell you, I’d like to come home with you. I’m more than a little adorable and I’m eager to find a place to settle in, get spoiled rotten and love on a wonderful person or family. I’m a smidge over two years old and I’ve had all of my shots, I’ll never have to worry about paying child support, and frankly, I’m cute enough to melt just about any heart. My friends here at Grant County Animal Outreach – grantcountyanimaloutreach.org - are treating me well, but I’d really like to come home with you. Also, if you can’t take me home, you could help get me some kibble by clicking the “donate” button at the top of the GCAO website.
A princess looking for her castle
SOAP LAKE – Princess Ebby, a 2–year–old mixed breed pup, is looking for a loving and playful home. Ebby came to the Rock Bottom Rocker Pet Pantry with a shattered back left leg above the growth plate at the hip. The vet determined she was either stepped on or kicked by an adult human which caused the break. Ebby received corrective orthopedic surgery, and now one leg may be shorter than the others, but she doesn’t let that slow her down. Ebby is friendly and wins the heart of everyone she meets. She is a very smart pup who picks up new things quickly. Her favorite activity though is a good cuddle with many belly rubs. Ebby is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. For those interested in taking home the sweet girl, visit RockBottomRocker.org to learn more. For those unable to adopt but who would like to support the shelter, consider donating by clicking the “donate” button at the top of the website.

Swing by Grant County Animal Outreach to meet your new "On Purpose" best friend. “Please Please Please” adopt this “Short n’ Sweet” girl by visiting GrantCountyAnimalOutreach.org and filling out her application. Roosters looking for ravishing home
SOAP LAKE – The Rock Bottom Rocker Pet Pantry has several breeds of rooster available for adoption. Last year, Rock Bottom Rocker Pet Pantry President Shawna Kluge purchased two dozen chicks from various feed stores, and she got more roosters than hens. Kluge got the chicks in hopes of having fresh eggs, so the roosters are not much help to that effort. There are several breeds available including Buff Orrington roosters, Rhode Island red roosters, Well Summer Roosters and Barred Rock roosters. Kluge said the best way to contact her about the roosters is by texting her phone at 509-237-5722. If flying friends are not what you are looking for, the shelter also has several dogs and cats available for adoption. Visit RockBottomRocker.org to learn more about the other animals. If you can’t adopt any friends right now, but would like to help a local shelter, visit the website and click “donate.”
Shreddin' stuffies in the sun
OTHELLO – Jovie, left and Bugg, right spent Monday playing a very intense game of who can rip up the stuffed animal faster and for longer before the other one can get it. It’s a very complicated game with many facets to it, Jovie and Bugg were not willing to take further questions on the matter. However, both were enthusiastic to talk about how they are up for adoption and looking for more homes that will supply unlimited stuffies to rip apart. Jovie, a husky mix said she loves other dogs, people and treats. Her favorite is a cozy cuddle on the couch though. Bugg, a mixed breed, has endless energy. The pup loves walks and playtime. Both are fixed, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to be adopted from Adams County Pet Rescue. To adopt one, or both of these sweet babies, visit AdamsCountyPetRescue.com. If now isn’t a good time for you to adopt but you want to help a local shelter visit the site and click “donate.”
Spidey hoping to climb into new home
MOSES LAKE – Spidey, while her name may indicate otherwise, is really just a cuddle bug. She’s about a year old and still has a load of playful energy and the charm of a kitten. She’s a bit of a social butterfly and adores people, including children, and gets along well with other cats. While she does have some minor medical issues, they won’t affect her quality of life or her ability to live a long, full life overall. She’s fully vaccinated, spayed and ready to shower her new family with love and affection. For more information, contact Grant County Animal Outreach at 509-762-9616 or by email at [email protected]. The shelter is located at 6725 Randolph Road NE in Moses Lake and is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. If you are unable to adopt, but want to pitch in, the shelter welcomes volunteers and donations. Just click the donate button at grantcountyanimaloutreach.com or call the shelter.

Cougars open state tournament with win over Davenport
SPOKANE — The No. 2 seed Cougars snapped a two-game skid with Wednesday’s Round of 12 win over No. 10 Davenport, defeating the Gorillas 64-49 in the 2B Girls State Basketball Tournament. “We went back to basics,” Warden Head Coach Josh Madsen said. “I think we got a little bit too much into our heads. We want to be prepared, but not so much so that we forget to just go play basketball. We went back to some pretty simple stuff at practice, trying to build the girls back up – high-energy, fast, intense – and the girls responded really well.” Warden opened the game with its full-court press defense, but soon shifted philosophies after the Gorillas found players down the floor. After starting the game on a seven-point run, the Cougars led 17-11 after the first quarter.

A career of grace
Pastor Walter Klockers prepares to retire
MOSES LAKE — Pastor Walter Klockers has a guiding principle: “This is Christ's Church, and I know my place.” It’s a part of the creed he maintains for his ministry, he said; he regularly reminds himself that he is an imperfect person who is called to proclaim a perfect Gospel and to serve others rather than feed his own ego. “That, I review, because I fail so many times,” he added.
Eagles fall to Dayton at home
Slow start, multiple injuries lead to 46-16 loss for Soap Lake
SOAP LAKE – The Soap Lake Eagles football team fell 16-46 against Dayton on Friday putting their record at 1-1 for the season. “We came out slow and then once we got it to 30-8 we played them even from then on out,” said the Eagles’ head coach Garrett Devine. “I felt like it was a pretty evenly matched team for us, but they came out really hot and they had a good game plan, and we just didn’t come out hot.”

ACH Warriors off to undefeated start
COULEE CITY — The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors (4-0) are off to an undefeated start to their season after defeating the Neah Bay Red Devils 71-49. Head Coach Graham Grindy was complimentary of his teams defensive effort. “Collectively, the defense was great. Along with that, we rebounded really well, and that allowed us to get out in transition. I would say we were pretty balanced inside and out, and also balanced with our scoring,” he said.

Grain, soy complex markets ended the day higher
Corn futures turned decisively firm Tuesday. Prices jumped nearly two percent at close, approaching session highs. Technical buying certainly sent prices higher. Strong cash bids triggered additional buying interests in the futures market. However, sluggish export demand continued to add pressure to the market, thus curbing the gains. Stabilizing factors are harvest nearing completion at 94% in yesterday’s crop progress report from NASS, up from 89% the week before. December corn futures advanced 6.75 cent to close at $3.7425/bushel Tuesday, while May was up 6.50 cents to $3.9575.
