He worked as an engineer for the U.S. Department of Energy, has Washington and California teaching certificates with mathematics endorsements, taught in seven public school districts and more than 30 schools in our state, as well as teaching in both public and charter schools in inner-city Los Angeles, and worked as a bus driver. He has taught nearly every subject from preschool through high school, including bilingual and special education. He served as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and has two master’s degrees, one in chemical engineering from the University of Washington.
