Mavs swim team finds success in districts

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks swim team competed in the Big 9 District 5 tournament with the preliminary round and diving events taking place Thursday and the finals taking place Saturday. The results from the finals qualified two Mavs for the state tournament with around six in the wildcard.

MOSES LAKE – Coming off of Tuesday’s 11-1 win over Davis, the Mavs completed the regular season sweep over the Pirates with back-to-back 4-2 wins on Friday night in Moses Lake. “Davis is a really good team,” Moses Lake senior Joshua West said. “We saw a kid (throwing) in the upper 80’s. To beat a team like that, in a sweep, it’s really good – especially coming off of a loss. I know the team’s really hyped up after that.”

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks (9-7) fell 2-3 in their senior night home match Thursday evening against Eastmont. Despite the loss, Mavs Head Coach Krystal Trammell said it was still a good night to celebrate the seniors in their final home match of the regular season.

Strong Moses Lake offense pushes past Ephrata defense

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks and the Ephrata Tigers went head-to-head Thursday night on the Ephrata soccer pitch with the game ending with a score of 4-0 in favor of Moses Lake. The Mavs scored twice in the first half, resulting in the Tigers going on the defensive early in the game. Ephrata worked to regain control in the second half but were unable to overcome the Mavs’ defense with a goal and a penalty kick putting the Mavs up to four by the end of the game.

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake High School hosted the District Swim and Dive meet over the weekend. Teams included Davis High School, West Valley (Yakima) High School, Wenatchee High School, Eastmont High School and Eisenhower High School. MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks (5-0) dominated the field for their homecoming game against Eisenhower on Friday, earning a 70-0 victory. The Mavs remain undefeated this season and sit at the top of the Big 9 conference. “It was a great team win, everybody got in there and got a piece of them,” said Mavs defensive end Treyson Knowles.

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks volleyball team (4-3) got back on track with a 3-1 home win over Eisenhower Tuesday night. “I think this just gave us some confidence back and just made us realize that this is how we should be playing every game,” said Mavs player Madison Witwer. “I think we came out thinking that we refined some things that we’ve been wanting to work on.”

MOSES LAKE – The final score of Wednesday’s fastpitch softball matchup between Moses Lake and Richland doesn’t tell the full story of the game, as the Mavs nearly pulled off a come-from-behind victory after being down 11-0 at the bottom of the third inning. Richland defeated the Mavs 11-9, remaining undefeated on the year. Moses Lake fell to 8-2.

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Mavericks defeated Eisenhower on Saturday 59-23, improving their overall record to 9-10. Head Coach Matt Strophy said he was very pleased with their performance throughout the game. The Mavericks held complete control of the first half, ending the second quarter with a score of 33-3. “We talked about setting the tone early and we did that,” Strophy said. “I think defensively we really were dialed in.”
