Oliver sworn in as new Ephrata mayor

EPHRATA — Steve Oliver was formally sworn in as the new Mayor of Ephrata during a city council workshop Monday, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the community. Oliver’s election victory in the Nov. 2025 General Election, where he received 937 votes against incumbent Bruce Reim's 819 votes.

YAKIMA — In a game where Pierce Bierlink had 52 points, the Quincy Jacks (3-7) earned a tight 64-63 win over the La Center Wildcats at Yakima Dome in the SunDome Shootout. Head Coach Scott Bierlink said it was a great experience for his players.

Mavericks coach finds positives despite loss

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Mavericks (3-7) fell to the Ridgeline Falcons 65-23 at home Tuesday. Despite the loss, Head Coach Matt Strophy was happy to find the small victories from their game.

Michael William Hamilton was born on April 12, 1957, in Bellingham, Wash., to James and Barbara Hamilton. He graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1975, already known as someone who understood the value of hard work and responsibility.

Warley's 22 points and 14 rebounds help No. 7 Gonzaga beat San Diego 99-93

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Jalen Warley had 22 points and 14 rebounds as No. 7 Gonzaga held off a late charge to beat San Diego 99-93 on Tuesday night for its 20th straight win against the Toreros. Gonzaga (14-1, 2-0 WCC) was making its final trip to San Diego as a member of the West Coast Conference. However, the Bulldogs will still make annual trips to face San Diego State after the schools begin play in the new-look Pac-12 starting next season.

Adria Kay (Krause) DeLay

1933 — 2025

Adria Kay (Krause) DeLay was born in Kimball, Neb. Sept. 20, 1933 and passed away Dec. 26, 2025 in Moses Lake, Wash. at the age of 92.

BBCC expands ag opportunities in 2025

CHENEY — The Eastern Washington Eagles took care of business Monday as they defeated Bushnell, 78-37 in the team's final game before conference games begin on Saturday, according to a statement by EWU athletics. Head Coach Joddie Gleason said it was a good tune up before they see their Big Sky competitors.

William Walter West was called home and into the loving embrace of his wife Lucinda on December 14, 2025. He was a great son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, patriot and US Army Veteran.

Library advocate honored with Kevin Fuhr award

MOSES LAKE — Sarah Delacruz is the honoree of the third annual Kevin Fuhr Community Member of the Year award. “She was so outspoken and the public face of trying to keep the library open and share the facts about it that it made sense for her to be our selection this year,” said Matthew Paluch, a member of the Moses Lake Community Coalition committee that bestowed the award.

Gas prices remain below $3 nationally, $4 in Washington

MOSES LAKE — As the year ends, gas prices across the nation are sitting at their lowest. Nationally, the gas average remains under $3 a gallon. Across Washington, although higher than the national average, fuel is sitting under $4 a gallon.

PULLMAN — Washington State Cougars (2-12) shook off a slow start and used a strong second half to earn a 66-63 win over Pepperdine on Sunday, opening West Coast Conference play with a hard-fought victory, according to a statement by WSU athletics.

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Reserve Tyon Grant-Foster had 18 points and four blocks, and Braeden Smith and Davis Fogle scored 15 points apiece to lead No. 7 Gonzaga to a 96-56 win over Pepperdine in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams Sunday night. Gonzaga (13-1), in its last West Coast Conference season before moving to the Pac-12 next season, displayed the same dominance that helped it win 26 WCC titles. The Bulldogs seemingly dunked and scored at will in winning their sixth straight game since their only loss of the season, against Michigan on Nov. 26.
