Privatized liquor sales force smaller stores to diversify
MOSES LAKE - Small liquor stores in Grant County are having to adjust to a whole new market, as new regulations and new competition continue to crop up in the wake of Initiative 1183, which privatized liquor sales with its passing last year.

Eugene R. Bergenholtz
Gene, age 91, passed away peacefully July 27, 2013 at his home in Mount Vernon with his wife by his side; he was born September 7, 1921 in Hazelton, Idaho to Carl and Erma Bergenholtz. Gene spent his early years in Idaho until joining the U.S. Navy in 1942 serving in WWII on the USS Tuscaloosa (Atlantic) and USS Miami (Pacific). He met his wife of 69 years, Oliva, they were married in 1944. Following his separation from the Navy, he moved to Moses Lake and was the first employee for the Moses Lake PUD. Gene and Oliva were very involved in numerous community organizations including: Masonic Lodge Lifetime Member (Past Master), Eastern Star Oasis Chapter, Shriner, VFW Life Member, and the Moses Lake First Church of the Nazarene. Gene was instrumental with admitting 40 children to the Spokane Shriner's Hospital. They moved to Mount Vernon in 2010 to be closer to family. They became members of the Mount Vernon Church of the Nazarene. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Oliva, daughter: Carol (Greg) DiGiovanna; grandchildren: Jeff (Sara) Willard and Deena (Wade) Wilhonen; great-grandchildren: Devin and Kailey Willard, and Kjirsi and Chandler Wilhonen. A Celebration of Gene's Life will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013, 2:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Church of the Nazarene followed by a time of reception. There will be a private Military Graveside service for Gene in the Veteran Garden at Hawthorne Memorial Park. Robert Lewis 'Bob' Ralph, 57, longtime Moses Lake resident died in his home, Monday,October 6, 2014 after a short, valiant fight with renal cell carcinoma. Bob was born July 17, 1957 in Spirit Lake, Idaho to Barbara (Lozar) and Lester Ralph.
Kyle Talmage Ziegelman
Kyle Talmage Ziegelman, 52, of Moses Lake, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 2, 2014 suffering a heart attack. He was born in Lebanon, OR on May 30, 1961 but has lived in Moses Lake since 1992. Kyle loved fishing, camping, the Mariners and Seahawks, bbqing, and spending time with his new and only grand child, Peyton. He was a free spirit and a kid at heart, always jamming to his favorite tunes and cracking endless jokes. He lived for his children and spent most of his time with them. He is preceded in death by both parents, Claudia and Terry Ziegelman. He leaves behind his daughter Ashley, her husband Justin, and grand daughter, Peyton of Spokane, WA. sons Kyle and Kamren, Sister Kendy, nephew Jesse and fiance Viola, and great nieces and nephews Anthony, Elijah, Jesse, Evelyn, Alexis, Vanessa, Trapper, and one on the way, all of Moses Lake, and both mothers of his children, Lisa, of Moses Lake, and Michelle, of Phoenix, whom he both had great relationships with. Kyle was very social and brought a smile to all around him. Rock on!

Alice Olene Luvaas Milholland, 92, died on Thursday, July 19, 2007, in her residence in East Wenatchee. She was born on Feb. 18, 1915, to the Reverend Peter J. Luvaas and Flossie B. Morris Luvaas in Saint Paul, Minn. Alice is known for her tenacious spirit, love of learning, and heart of gratitude. She is and will always be a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and educator. She lived a full life and made a difference wherever she spent time. She passed from this life to the next gently with grace and knowing she was loved.

Franklin E. Rowley, 73, went to be with his loving wife on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007. He was born in Yakima, Oct. 4t, 1934, to Mr. and Mrs. Leland Rowley. At an early age Frank joined the Navy and enjoyed a long 20-year career serving his country and traveling the globe. He married Carol Woods, during his career with the Navy and took on the role as father to Carol's six children. He retired from the Navy in 1970 with full honors, the same year he and Carol had their youngest son.
