Moses Lake Chamber to hold candidate forum Wednesday
MOSES LAKE — Candidates for Moses Lake elected offices will have a chance to be heard Wednesday at a forum sponsored by the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce, KWIQ and the Columbia Basin Herald. The forum will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Moses Lake Civic Center, 401 S. Balsam.

Ramona Garcia Rodriquez, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and children Oct. 19, 2023. Ramona lived in Moses Lake for 53 years. Ramona was born March 3, 1941, in Dilley, Texas, daughter of the late Gerardo and Antonia Garcia. Ramona was the third child of 10 to be born to Mr. and Mrs. Gerardo Garcia. Ramona was raised in Dilley among her older siblings until 1960, as then they migrated to Washington state with her parents, children and siblings. Ramona went to primary school with Pablo Rodriquez and later they reconnected in Moses Lake where both of their families settled to work in the agricultural industry. Ramona and Pablo married in 1967 and decided to make Moses Lake their permanent home, raising their children Janie, Fermin, Bertha and their last blessing, Cecilia.

Creating a healthy environment for Othello
OTHELLO — Heavenly Fresh, a juice bar in Othello focused on health drinks and nutrition, officially opened for business in mid-July after a burglary delayed the opening. Now, business is slowly picking up, said the business’s owners Emily Cordero and her husband Salvador De Jesus Solano. “This month mainly has been picking up,” Cordero said. “Last month was pretty slow, the month before that was okay. But yeah, we would prefer to have more people.” Cordero and Solano initially had planned to provide a gaming space to attract younger clientele, but after multiple TVs, consoles and devices were stolen during the burglary on June 14, they had to push that goal down the road.
Grant Co. PUD wrestles with rate-setting policy
EPHRATA — Grant County PUD commissioners are scheduled to give individual statements on their goals and objectives in establishing rate-setting policy during the regular commission meeting Tuesday. Those statements are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., during the commission’s discussion session.
GCSO on scene at Saturday evening Mae Valley collision
MOSES LAKE – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and cooperating agencies have responded to a collision near the intersection of Road 4 NE and Road E NE near Mae Valley, according to GCSO Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman. The collision involved a passenger car and a semi. One occupant of the car likely has a fractured leg and has been taken to the hospital for treatment. GCSO expects to have the roadway cleared within 90 minutes and the road is not considered a major thoroughfare, so no emergency notification was sent out to the public via Nixle, Foreman said.
