Grant Co. awards tourism funding
EPHRATA — The Grant County Lodging Tax Advisory Committee awarded just less than $1.6 million in grants at its Oct. 25 meeting at the Grant County Courthouse in Ephrata. The funding, derived from the county’s overnight lodging tax, is intended to boost tourism in Grant County.

Heidi Lubos, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2012, with her family by her side in Kent, Washington. She was born and raised in the tiny village of Heimbuchenthal Germany, the daughter of Bruno and Elizabeth Taupp.
Ric Johnson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ric Johnson, who left us on Aug. 27, 2023, at the age of 72. Though he departed this world unexpectedly, he was surrounded by his dear friends. Ric was born on Dec. 15, 1950, to Glenn and Joan (Burgess) Johnson in Pasco, Washington. His family eventually settled in Othello where he graduated from Othello High School. After high school Ric moved to Spokane to attend business school. While in Spokane, Ric married his first wife, and they had two children, Natalie and Patrick. Life led Ric to Georgia where he met his second wife Maxine. They eventually moved back to Washington to be closer to Ric’s family. Shortly after the move, Maxine was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Ric had become active in hospice after his mother passed away from cancer, which helped him through Maxine’s diagnosis. Ric continued to volunteer with hospice and served on the board for several years.

Jon was born on March 25, 1960 in Moses Lake, son of Marvin and Marijean (Banks) Larsen. He enjoyed camping, fishing and wood working. He loved spending time with the "love of his life", a Chihuahua, Little Girl. Jon had worked as a carpet layer for many years.

George W. Hunt
George Hunt, 87, passed away on Dec. 12, 2007, at Samaritan Healthcare, Moses Lake. He was born April 30, 1920, in Ironton, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents William J. and Ethel Hunt, wife Velma Hunt in 1974, and wife Olga Hunt in 2006. He is survived by one daughter Nancy (Hunt) Patterson and stepchildren, Ed Field, Spokane, Bob Field, Moses Lake, Roger and wife Pam Field, Moses Lake, Elmer and Wife Necia Field, DeBorgia, Mont., Kathy and husband Daryl Felts, Post Falls, Idaho, Sandy Field, Pasco, Diane Jones, Hagerton, Md., numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-children. He retired from being a United States Postal Service worker in Pasco. He was a WW II decorated veteran. He was past president of the Eagles Lodge, Moses Lake and a lifetime member of the VFW Club, Moses Lake. He enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. He will be missed. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake.

Living the dream
MOSES LAKE — Forty-eight years, 585 months, 2,545 weeks, and 17,819 days have passed since Martin Luther King Jr. had his life tragically cut short on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tenn. Despite the time that has passed since his death, King’s dream of a peace and equality for all people still lives on and is just as relevant today as it was during his lifetime. That dream and the life of the man who fought to see it become a reality was celebrated Monday night in the Moses Lake Civic Center Auditorium.
