History? Oh, man, that’s sooooo boooring. Yeah ,okay, maybe, if it’s restricted to dates and lists of British prime ministers and things. Explore a little more, and all kinds of fun/crazy/scary/creepy/just plain interesting stuff pops up, some of it in the wildest places. I’ve been reading a lot of Japanese history lately, and it was there that I ran across the story of the gangsters back in the 1930s who were fighting over distribution rights to movies made by a popular Japanese movie star. They decided to talk it over but came prepared if things went off track. Which they did. So a gunfight ensued? Nah, it’s Japan in the 1930s - they got in a swordfight. Serious swordfight. Everybody died.

1938 — 2025

Irene LaDean Daggy died on May 3, 2025. LaDean, as she was called, was born at home, on May 2, 1938, in Moore, Idaho, to Floyd and Nora Haney. She was the second of two children. Her family moved to Moses Lake in 1955, where she graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1957.

Four juveniles steal vehicle, elude police and roll car

MOSES LAKE – Monday morning at around 1:30 a.m., a vehicle was stolen by four Moses Lake juveniles between the ages of 13 to 15 on Bong Loop in Moses Lake. The car was called in as stolen, according to Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman.

PULLMAN – Washington State baseball (17-29) posted a 10-2 series-clinching win over Air Force (18-30) at Bailey-Brayton Field Sunday afternoon, according to a statement by Washington State Athletics.

Civil Air Patrol presents at council workshop

EPHRATA – Civil Air Patrol cadets practiced presenting the colors at an Ephrata City Council workshop Wednesday evening at City Hall. The drill and ceremonies competitors are headed to California for competition soon and wanted to get practice in front of an audience. Kathy Maxwell with the Civil Air Patrol said this is multiple years in a row the Ephrata squadron has qualified for the competition. Members said the competition includes a variety of categories including physical fitness, knowledge and drill and ceremonies.

Quincy Valley medical Center hosts preview of its new facility

QUINCY — The community got a sneak peek Friday at the new Quincy Valley Medical Center. “We've planned, we've thought about it, we've dreamed, and it's only because of the support of this community that tonight is a reality,” said QVMC Administrator Glenda Bishop at First Look, a gathering of community members to see what their new hospital will look like.
