FRESNO, Calif. — Washington State wrapped up its series at first-place Fresno State, dropping an 11-1 contest Sunday afternoon, according to a statement by Washington State Athletics.

The Cougs received three hits from shortstop Gavin Roy and two hits from Luke Thiele as they collected 11 hits but left eight runners on base. WSU starter Luke Meyers worked into the sixth inning, allowed five runs and struck out four. Freshman third baseman Kyler Northrop singled in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

Fresno State tallied 11 hits, including a two-out, two-run double in the third inning to take the lead before pulling away with a pair of homers in a seven-run sixth inning.

The Cougars loaded the bases in the first inning but were kept off the scoreboard following an inning-ending strikeout. WSU put a pair of runners on with one out in the second inning after a Griffin Myers opposite-field single to left field and a Kyler Northrop bunt single up the first base line. Roy rocketed an RBI single to left field to score Myers for a 1-0 lead.

Fresno State answered with a two-out two-run double to right-centerfield in the third and plated two more in the fifth for a 4-1 advantage. The Bulldogs took advantage of two walks, two hit-by-pitches and a pair of homers in the sixth inning to pull away 11-1. Will Cresswell singled in the first to extend his hitting streak to 5 games, Kyler Northrop reached with a bunt single in the second to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, and Gavin Roy recorded his third 3-hit game of the season, also drove in a run and stole a base.

The Cougs began a four-game home stretch yesterday against Gonzaga and will finish that series against Air Force this weekend. Results of the Gonzaga game were not available as of press time.
