Robert Lee Nichols was born Jan. 28, 1943 to Alvie and Doris (Crawford) Nichols in Vernon, Ala., joining a sister, Amogene. Bob went to be with our lord on June 9. Bob's family moved to Moses Lake from Alabama in the mid-1950's. Bob attended Moses Lake schools and served a short time in the Air Force. Bob worked until retirement as a mechanic in a shop that he owned with his father, known as Nick's Valley Automotive. Bob is also a retired musician and loved music. He had his own bands as well as playing music with Ron Hampton, his sidekick from the Sundowners. In the last five years, he worked at the Moses Lake Postal Service helping his wife, B. J., being her right hand man on her mail route. Bob loved fishing, golfing, camping and especially hanging out with so many of his friends. Bob was a wonderful man and not likely forgotten. He was know, to most as Robert, Bob, Bobby, Dad, PaPa and Uncle Bobby. Bob was a member of the Eagles and a forrner member of the VFW, Moose and Elks. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Alvie Lee Nichols, mother Doris Nichols and sister Amogene. Bob leaves behind his wife, lover, friend and soul-mate, B.J. Nichols; a cousin he called his brother, Dan (and Linda) Pennington of Nashville, Tenn.; aunts Annie, Dollie and Anna Banks and numerous cousins from his hometown, Vernon, Ala.; his sons, Scott Nichols (and Donna), and Joshua Nichols; daughter Lisa Nichols; granddaughters Brittney, Heather and Jillian Nichols; great grandson Blake W.S. Nichols; stepsons Ted (and Kris) Piccolo, Joey (and Angie) Piccolo, Jeff (and Toni) Piccolo and their 13 children; nieces Linda Cunnington (and Ray Minitani) and her children, Wish (and Tom Supan) and their children, Missy (and Duey) Dixon and their children, Joyce Watts and her son. Bob had many good friends including, Elmo, Mark, Mo, Eric, Carl, Ron Nuneley and the list goes on, including musician friends Arkie Gartett, Bob Lightel, Chuck Hansen, Chuck Warner, Ray Minitani, Ron Hampton, George Panger, Frank Pederson, Chuck Hart and more… Bob wanted to be remembered as having happy times, helping anyone he could and no tears. He loved you all. His wishes were to have a happy celebration of his life, which will be held at Moses Lake Eagles at 6 p.m. Friday, June 16 with music to follow. Edith Lee Murphy, mother of Moses Lake resident Kathy Anne Sturm, died in her sleep on March 6, 2006 at the age of 89. She was being cared for at the Cascade Vista Convalescent Center in Redmond. Lee was the younger twin sister (by five minutes) of Mabel Irene Beinke who resides in Redmond.

George Edward Counsell
George Edward Counsell, 82, a longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. George was the first-born son of Ed and Lillian Counsell on Nov. 1, 1940, and raised in LaGrande, Oregon on a cattle ranch. He loved living on Happy Valley Ranch driving tractors, putting up hay, herding cattle and riding horses exploring local mountains and streams with his brothers. He attended a little country grade school just down the road and LaGrande High School. He was an active member of FFA and played an alto saxophone in the high school band. He graduated in 1958. He joined the U.S. Air Force in September 1959 and served until September 1963. He was stationed at San Antonio, Texas; Chanute, Illinois; Roswell, New Mexico and Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake. He was an airman 1st class, assistant crew chief and jet mechanic on a KC 135. He served temporary duty in Fairbanks, Alaska and Hickman AFB in Hawaii.
