Two men sought in connection with fatal drive-by shooting

MOSES LAKE — Two Moses Lake men are being sought in connection with a drive-by shooting March 21 that left a 14-year-old Moses Lake boy dead.

February 11, 1945 – January 22, 2025

Gary Thoren passed away peacefully in the early morning of Jan. 22, 2025, just short of his 80th birthday. Gary was born Feb. 11, 1945, to Cecil and Naomi (Evers) Thoren in Amira, Washington. The family moved to dryland wheat and cattle ranch near Bridgeport, Washington. He was raised with brothers John, Denny and Bob (deceased) and sisters Betty and Donna (Deede).

QUINCY — Quincy High School girls head wrestling Coach Mark Kondo said that for him being a good coach started in the classroom. “The quality that makes a good teacher translates to making a good coach, as far as being organized, as far as being able to break learning down into meaningful segments and teach that, as far as building relationships,” Kondo said.

SLPD loses two officers, receiving assistance from GCSO

SOAP LAKE — The Soap Lake Police Department currently has two officers, according to Acting Chief Robert Geates, him and one other officer. SLPD will be getting one lateral officer from Alaska after he completes his training. Geates also said he has one other officer “on background” and one officer in academy.

ECBID’s Bischoff promoted to deputy assistant manager of operations and maintenance

OTHELLO — The East Columbia Basin Irrigation District has announced the promotion of Bobby Bischoff to Deputy Assistant Manager of Operations and Maintenance. A veteran of the ECBID with 15 years of service, Bischoff previously held the role of Special Projects Administrator.

U.S. Marshals begin manhunt for two suspects in Moses Lake drive-by

MOSES LAKE – The U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force is stepping in to assist with the investigation into the Friday evening drive-by shooting in Moses Lake that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy and the injury of three juveniles and one adult. All of the victims were from Moses Lake.

Moses Lake Demo Derby welcomes new sponsor

MOSES LAKE — A popular event in Moses Lake will have a new name this year: The Miner Services Demo Derby. “We’re really big on getting our name out there and being part of the community,” said Seth Miner, owner of Miner Services and the demo derby’s new sponsor. “We’re big derby-goers. Three Wildcats named CSC Academic All-District

ELLENSBURG – Three Central Washington University Basketball standouts were tabbed to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, CSC announced Tuesday. Asher Cai and Sunny Huerta represented the Wildcat Women's Basketball Team while Jordan Clark was the sole representative from the Men's Basketball Team while all three 'Cats will move on to the CSC Academic All-America ballot which will be announced on April 15.

Othello man arrested after Moses Lake standoff

MOSES LAKE — An Othello man was arrested Wednesday afternoon for hit and run and outstanding warrants after he briefly barricaded himself in a Moses Lake home.

Thomas Patrick Green, 74, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, with family by his side. Tom was born October 7, 1950, in San Francisco, California. He moved to Washington with his family when he was a young boy and grew up in the Royal Slope area, outside of Othello.
