DETROIT (AP) — Julio Rodríguez had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs as the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 9-2 on Friday night. Rodríguez, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, came into the game hitting .205 with six home runs. “Julio got off to a pretty slow start last year, and this is right about when he picked it up and became Julio Rodríguez,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “Hopefully, this is the start of the same kind of run.” ...

Knights return to 1A title game with 57-21 win over Freeman

MOSES LAKE – On a cold and foggy evening at Lions Field in Moses Lake, the Royal Knights clinched their sixth state title game appearance since 2015 with a 57-21 win over Freeman on Saturday. “It feels great,” Royal Head Coach Wiley Allred said. “Nerve-racking along the way sometimes, but great. These kids have been unbelievable. We were supposed to be a little bit down (this year), we had a great group of seniors and a great team last year. These kids have worked really hard to get to the position they’re in.” Quarterback Dylan Allred completed 13 of 20 passes for 198 yards in the first half alone, throwing three touchdowns to receiver Edgar De La Rosa of six, 52 and 10 yards through the first 24 minutes. Allred added a 33-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter to give him four total touchdowns before the half...

Ritzville Fair livestock auction does well this year

RITZVILLE – As part of the Wheat Land Communities Fair in Ritzville, the Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club hosted an open livestock auction on Saturday, where youth involved in the fair and other members of the community sold their animals. Lori Williams, livestock sale secretary, vice president of the Wheat Land Communities Fair Board and head of the Ritzville 4-H Club, explained the basics of the event. “So all of these kids are 4-H and (Future Farmers of America) members,” said Williams. “The steers were purchased last fall and it takes them that long from beginning to end, and then it kind of culminates here at the sale.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are wobbling between small gains and losses in early trading on Wall Street following a big gain from last week. Markets have swung sharply in both directions in recent weeks as investors try to gauge how much damage a virus spreading from China will do to the global economy. European and Asian indexes mostly fell. Oil prices fell, while U.S. government bond prices rose. The 10-year Treasury yield fell to 1.56% The S&P 500 rose 1 point to 3,329. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was little changed at 29,104 and the Nasdaq edged up 13 points to 9,534.
