June 13
Guided sketching and drawing
Class for teens and adults taught by museum fine art instructor Cheryl Fall. This class will guide you to develop – or improve – your drawing skills through the basics of sketching from a variety of set-ups. We’ll cover live sketching techniques, drawing beautifully draped fabrics, sketching everyday objects, as well as techniques to establish value and scale. All materials are provided for this class; however, you may choose to bring your own sketchbook and/or pencils. Flag Day Ice Cream Social
Flag Day ceremony, music and ice cream. Sponsored by the Veterans Operation Creation. 4-6 p.m. at the Quincy Valley Historical Society and Museum, 415 F St. SW. Info: www.qvhsm.org.
Columbia Basin Senior Picnic
Seniors will enjoy a hot meal, live entertainment, and the opportunity to win lots of door prizes. There will also be many exhibitors on sight for seniors to talk with and learn more about senior resources available throughout the Columbia Basin. The theme is “Let Freedom Ring,” and attendees are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue. Free for seniors, $5 for chaperones. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds Commercial Building, Moses Lake.
Preschool Art Club
For ages 2-5. Preschool Art Club is a fun way to create art and make new friends! We may be using scissors, glue, paints, and sometimes glitter, so make sure to wear clothes that can get messy. Three or four simple crafts will generally be themed by the current season/holidays. Parent/guardian participation required. Museum members are eligible for discounts on classes. NCW Libraries Personal Essay Workshops for adults
Award-winning journalist, essayist and teacher Kristen Millares Young will lead an interactive writing workshop to help participants tell their own stories. Each hour-long session will begin with a one-page reading to inspire group discussion, followed by timed prompts that guide individual writing sessions. Virtual event. Juneteenth
Join the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee to celebrate Juneteenth, a federally recognized holiday celebrating the freedom and emancipation of African Americans. Juneteenth serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for racial equality and justice. It is a time for reflection, education, and celebration of African American culture and history. Uke Jam

Famous Palettes: Frida Kahlo
While Frida Kahlo is best known for her brilliantly colored self-portraits or scenes of life and death, she is also known for the beautiful floral touches that she added to many of her famous paintings. Participants will paint one of two exuberant florals, in bold, vibrant colors, in the folkloric style of this popular artist, as we discuss her life and paintings.
