Marion C. Spence was born on March 12, 1918 in Omaha, Nebraska to immigrant parents Simon B. Epstein and Adele Marcus Epstein. She died at the age of nearly 93. Marion was born the year that 6% of the world's population died during an influenza epidemic and as World War 1 was winding down. Her family moved to southern California when she was a young girl. She has seen many changes in the world during her lifetime. Marion was a "City Girl" most of her life until she moved to Royal City nearly 10 years ago to live with her daughter and son in law, Dwain and Marilyn Forester. Marion married her husband, James William Spence, during the depths of the depression. He preceded her death in 1979. She is survived by her children, afore mentioned daughter Marilyn, Donna Johnson of Star Idaho and James William Spence Jr of Redding, California, and her brother Elliott Epstein of San Jose, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jay S. Estern. She has 12 grandchildren and a great many great and great great grandchildren. Marion was a stay at home mom, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and community volunteer until both girls married within one month of each other in 1959. She then went to work and worked until her retirement form the Social Security Administration at age 68.
