Marion C. Spence

| February 26, 2011 5:00 AM

Marion C. Spence was born on March 12, 1918 in Omaha, Nebraska to immigrant parents Simon B. Epstein and Adele Marcus Epstein. She died at the age of nearly 93. Marion was born the year that 6% of the world's population died during an influenza epidemic and as World War 1 was winding down. Her family moved to southern California when she was a young girl. She has seen many changes in the world during her lifetime. Marion was a "City Girl" most of her life until she moved to Royal City nearly 10 years ago to live with her daughter and son in law, Dwain and Marilyn Forester. Marion married her husband, James William Spence, during the depths of the depression. He preceded her death in 1979. She is survived by her children, afore mentioned daughter Marilyn, Donna Johnson of Star Idaho and James William Spence Jr of Redding, California, and her brother Elliott Epstein of San Jose, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jay S. Estern. She has 12 grandchildren and a great many great and great great grandchildren. Marion was a stay at home mom, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and community volunteer until both girls married within one month of each other in 1959. She then went to work and worked until her retirement form the Social Security Administration at age 68.

Marion knew how to get things done. She was a caregiver to her parents, husband and two grandchildren while working full-time.

While in her 60's she embraced the Mormon faith and became a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

It was after retiring that she fulfilled her life long dream to travel the world. There were not many places she didn't see.

All who knew Marion know what a classy lady she was. She taught us all how to dress with style even when you are in your 80's and 90's. She always had her earrings on so that if there was a place to go, she was ready. She looked forward with great anticipation for her next journey to heaven's gates where she could reunite with those loved ones who had passed on before her. No more broken hip and frail body, just joy and happiness in Paradise, until the day of resurrection, when she could get her great looking legs back.

Her large family and many friends will miss her.

Her funeral will be Saturday, February 26 at the chapel of the Royal Camp LDS church at 11:00 am with Burial to follow at Royal Memorial Gardens. Services are under the Direction of Steven's Funeral Chapel.
