MOSES LAKE (Updated at 8:50 p.m.) — One man was killed in an officer involved shooting Monday evening in the 4700 block of Road L.9 Northeast in rural Moses Lake, according to the Moses Lake Police Department.

Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Moses Lake Police Department officers went to the site of the incident in association with an open investigation. Upon arrival, a man was seen walking around the property. As deputies searched the facility, he was found armed with a rifle leveled at officers, according to a GCSO statement.

Five deputies fired their service weapons, but no Moses Lake officers fired. Aid was rendered to the man at the scene by law enforcement and EMS, but he died at the scene.

The man’s name will be released by the Grant County Coroner’s office, when appropriate.

The Central Basin Investigative team will conduct an investigation into the shooting. While GCSO and MLPD are partners in CBIT, their officers will not be participating in the investigation because they were involved in the incident.

“This is all the information we are able to share tonight,” an 8:45 p.m. update from GCSO Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said.

At least one person has been injured in the shooting and EMS and law enforcement are providing aid to the wounded individual.

An unconfirmed report indicates that the Tactical Response Team was mobilized for the incident. The Columbia Basin Herald is working to verify details.

Generally, law enforcement asks that the public avoid the area of such scenes so that they are safe if the situation changes, and all evidence can be processed.
