UPDATED: MLPD officer, suspect injured in Motel 6 shooting

MOSES LAKE — Zachary Allen Stockton, 37 of Moses Lake was arrested after an officer-involved shooting at the Motel 6 at 2822 W. Driggs Drive in Moses Lake Saturday at about 8:20 p.m. 

A Moses Lake Police Department statement said officers had responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the motel and an exchange of gunfire between Stockton and the officers occurred shortly after their arrival. 

Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman confirmed that Stockton, who was listed in the Grant County Jail blotter Sunday morning, was the suspect involved in the shooting. The blotter indicates that he was booked on two counts of assault with a firearm and one of assault in the second degree. The blotter also shows he is being held in association with two outstanding issues; driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence. Those two bonds are set at $50,250 and $15,173 respectively. Court records indicate Stockton was involved in vehicle theft in 2005.

Stockton was injured during the incident. He was treated for a wound he sustained and released from Samaritan Hospital prior to being booked at the jail.

A Monday afternoon update from MLPD indicated that the officers involved in the call were Sgt. Adam Munro and Officer Todd Taylor. 

Munro, who was shot through the foot during the incident, underwent surgery Sunday and is recovering, the Monday statement said. Munro is a U.S. Air Force veteran, a firearms instructor and a former member of the regional SWAT team who has been with MLPD for 14 years. 

Taylor has been with the department for six years and serves as a field training officer. He previously worked at the Grant County Jail for 15 years and is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

An investigation into the matter is being conducted by the Central Basin Investigative Team which investigates officer-involved shootings using detectives from Grant, Adams and Kittitas counties. No detectives from MLPD will participate in the investigation, the MLPD statement said.

Under the requirements of Washington law, a news release will be provided each week on the case until it is concluded, Foreman said. 

A request for comment from Motel 6 was not responded to by press time.
