Family fun set for Neppel Landing this weekend
MOSES LAKE — To further support their members with shops adjacent to Neppel Park and to just simply have the community out for a good time, the Moses Lake Downtown Association is having a family picnic day at the park this Saturday.
“The businesses on Broadway are still in our district, and so we decided to move an event (to) that park at Neppel Landing,” Moses Lake Downtown Association Executive Director Mallory Miller said.
Miller said several companies and organizations stepped up to sponsor the event and make sure it was family-friendly and fun for children to attend. While there will be vendors there with booths, she asked that each booth bring an activity that younger attendees would be able to enjoy. Activities lined up so far include giant Connect 4, Jenga, a bean bag toss, Simon Says, a football activity, an obstacle course and other ways to make a splash.
“We have a dunk tank. We have the city of Moses Lake Parks and Rec Department, one of the workers, she's coming as a volunteer to have Simon Says, an obstacle course and a little football throwing game,” Miller said.
Car enthusiasts can also enjoy a car show from the Malditos Low Rider Club, she said.
The child-friendly focus is based on community members wanting more activities for younger people, especially children, Miller said. While only two of the DMLA’s events are focused on adults, having more children-friendly events was a good idea in general, so organizers ran with it.
Entertainment includes a poetry reading at 11:30 a.m., open mic from noon to 1 p.m. and story time from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m., according to the schedule released by DMLA.
Free face painting sponsored by the DMLA itself will be offered as well, Miller said.
With summer heat and a lake view, Popping Pearls Boba Shop, Weinstein Beverage and Diamond City Coffee will be on hand to sell cold beverages. To go with that, tacos, cotton candy, pizza and other festival food will be on hand to keep people from getting hangry.
T-Mobile will be passing out sunglasses to those who could use some new shades for the event as well.
