Warden Police Chief for a Day Gregorio Acero has a smile for Warden PD Chief Rick Martin. The Chief for a Day event, held June 6, allows children to connect with law enforcement officers and other first responders and learn more about the work they do. For the first responders, it’s an opportunity to visit with young community members and a fun event in general.

Grant County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dan Durand retired Friday after 37 years of service and was presented with a certificate in appreciation by Sheriff Joey Kriete. Most of the departments in the Columbia Basin are hiring for officers, in part because of well-earned retirements.
Sage Allen of Blackfoot, Idaho, competes in the bareback competition at the Last Stand Rodeo in Coulee City. The annual event was a success again this year and brought lots of visitors to the small town on the north end of Grant County. An A-10 Thunderbolt, commonly known as the A-10 Warthog, comes in for a landing at the Moses Lake Airshow. The aircraft is known for its roll in providing air support to ground troops and its 30mm cannon that spits an astonishing 3,900 rounds per minute. The aircraft has been in service for several decades.
The Iron Horse Playground in Othello opened in mid-June and offers a wide variety of equipment to keep kids of all ages busy and entertained.

The students of Columbia Ridge Elementary and their teachers, parents and other staff had fun in the Sage N Sun Kiddie Parade in Ephrata. The annual Sage N Sun festival, put on by the Ephrata Chamber of Commerce, included live music, vendors of all sorts and a chance for locals and visitors to enjoy the late spring sun.
