LETTER FROM THE EDITOR: Let’s stand together

The Moses Lake School District is facing some challenges. They’re not the only district in our area to have some difficulties. The Wahluke, Soap Lake, Quincy and other districts in the area are facing challenges too.

While most of us can’t step in and make changes to budgets or cover the costs levies or bonds were intended to cover, there are things we can do to make sure students have every opportunity a community can provide. 

We can volunteer and work with organizations like booster clubs, parent-teacher organizations, school clubs like Future Farmers of America and the various sports, drama and other activities schools in our area offer. 

Maybe the money won’t be in the budget for as many plays to be put on, but if we all band together to support our young people — and the teachers facing layoffs or challenges during this challenging time — we’ll come out of it with a few silver linings in the end. 

Here’s what I’d ask of our readers. If you know of an organization or group, formal or otherwise, doing something to support the youth of the Columbia Basin and ensure they’ve got a good education and role models, send me a letter to the editor and let me know. We can publish that letter. Additionally, when appropriate, we can speak with those making a difference and spread the word through stories covering their efforts. Let’s rally together and do what communities do best — stand together during hard times.
