William Herup
William Carl Herup, much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend passed away Dec. 25, 2024. He was 92.
William (Bill) was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Ross, Calif., the only child of Vilhelm Christensen Herup and Laura Janette Leonardi.
William attended St. Rafael’s Elementary in San Rafael, Calif., St. Ignatius Preparatory School in San Francisco, Calif., the University of San Francisco, where he played soccer as a goalkeeper and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
He married his loving wife of almost 70 years on May 7, 1955. They grew into a family of 10 with Carl, Lori, Lynn, Annette, Eric, Hans, Nord and Kristin.
William served as a lieutenant in the US Army, Anti-Aircraft Artillery between 1954 and 1956, and in the Reserves from 1956 to 1960.
In 1957, William became a deputy probation officer for Alameda County in California, eventually becoming a Supervisory Probation Officer until retirement in 1982. He then moved to Idaho and worked part-time as a juvenile probation officer and bailiff for Washington County, in Weiser, Idaho.
Services will be held at a mass at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Jan. 7, 2025, at 10 a.m.
