The Cardman
Melissa Craven and Darren Donoghue have opened The Cardman in Ephrata just across the street from Safeway, between Time Out Pizza and Pizza Hut. The couple, who have been together for about five years, hope to create a welcoming environment for area youth and hobbyists to come enjoy themselves.

While collectible cards are the main staple of The Cardman, the shop also carries signed sports gear, photos and other memorabilia. Co-owner Darren Donoghue said he’s excited about the progress that’s been made by Washington teams such as the Kraken in bringing notoriety to the state’s athletic teams.
A selection of Magic: the Gathering cards purchased at The Cardman in Ephrata. The shop also carries Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon and novelty cards. In time, the owners hope to become sanctioned to run official tournaments, but are running casual collectible card game tournaments in the meantime.
Several of the sports cards available for purchase at The Cardman include signed swag from White Sox Outfielder Harold Baines, Cubs Third Baseman Ryne Sandberg and Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals. Football, basketball, hockey and other sports are also represented in the shop’s collection.
EPHRATA — While there have been – quite literally – stumbles along the way, The Cardman hobby shop is now open in Ephrata and Derran Donoghue and partner Melissa Craven are excited to be in Tiger country.
