November 22, 1940 – July 20, 2023

James Frederick Treutle, 82, of Moses Lake, Washington, was peacefully reunited with his wife of 53 years Judith Ann in the house of the Lord on July 20, 2023.

James was born Nov. 22, 1940. He learned to love the outdoors from a very young age growing up in Dayton, Ohio. At the age of 9, James became a golf caddie at a club on the other side of town. He worked hard and gained a reputation as a very good bagman at the time and was selected to caddie in the 1957 PGA Championship at Miami Valley Golf Club in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio. This and many more experiences gave James a true appreciation for the game of golf. He continued his love for the game into his high school years. His senior year in a match against Upper Arlington High he shot 75, his best round ever. But a senior from UAH by the name of Jack Nicklaus shot 64.

James always knew that his path would lead him to serve his country and follow in his grandfather's footsteps by joining the Navy. Upon graduation, James, still underage, needed his mother Victoria to sign the necessary form to release James for his next journey which spanned 20 years of service in Naval Air. Six years were served flying many combat missions in the Vietnam conflict while being assigned to the USS Midway of the Pacific fleet. During his first station at Whidbey Island, James was hooked by the sheer beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Though life's journey took James to different places, James and Judi would travel in retirement in search of the beauty and wonder that nature has to offer from Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, and all the way up to Alaska; later they went back again for good measure. He always had stories and a lot of pictures to share with family and friends. James loved his family, close friends, a hot cup of coffee with a good newspaper, and sittin' on the front porch waving at and chatting up the neighborhood as they passed by his house.

James Frederick Treutle was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judi, parents Daniel Luther Treutle and Victoria Reedy Treutle, brother Daniel and son Timothy. James was survived by daughter Toni Marie Howland, grandchildren Sarah Nunez and Kylie Howland and great-grandson Austin Nunez; son Jim Treutle and wife Debbie; son Tracy James Treutle and wife Jenny Treutle, grandsons Dayton Treutle and Derek Treutle.

Family and friends are invited to his service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ephrata on Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow with a luncheon after at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
